Is ‘Lost’ Losing Another Character?

Lost

Is the island getting even roomier? This could be considered spoiler information, so the fully story continues after the jump.

Cynthia Watros, who plays Libby, a ‘therapist’ who may actually be a mental patient on the hit ABC drama Lost, will soon star in a new television pilot on CBS. She will join Love Monkey’s Tom Cavanagh in My Ex-Life, a comedy that portrays the adventures of these two stars as a divorced—but friendly—couple sharing custody of their children.

So far, the buzz is that Watros will just be a ‘guest star’ on My Ex-Life, because of her commitment to Lost. But does that make sense? She replaced another actress in this role, and the show is said to ‘center on’ her character, along with Cavanagh’s. That doesn’t sound like a brief gig to us. Perhaps Watros has tired of the always mysterious yet never quite satisfying story arcs on Lost. Maybe the producers really are ashamed of her DUI. Maybe she wants a primary role, rather than just being one more dirty face among a dozen island dwellers.

If Libby does leave, how do you think she should die?

I think it would be kind of cool to have her be a mystery.  We saw Libby at the end of the episode sitting in the asylum. What if she gets up and starts walking and just fades away (similar to the old star trek transporter images).  Without her smiling knowingly to the camera of anything, so you don’t consider her and “other” really.  Could be some of the other patients saw this, or maybe not. Then the same fade out event could happen to the Libby currently on the island.. Just a fade out.  This way you can always create an explaination later in the series, or repeat the fade method in the future. In addition, if you wanted to bring Libby’s character back at some point (chances are “my ex-life” is not going to make it big anyhow), you would have an option to do this.
