‘Cavemen’ Now in Production
I couldn’t believe it when I read some time ago that the cavemen made popular by the quirky GEICO ads would be turned into a sitcom. Now, it seems, it really is a reality—production has started on Cavemen and the show is set to premiere on October 2nd at 8:00 p.m. on ABC. The show will look at three cavemen (naturally) and their adventures in San Diego. Is it just me, or does the whole concept seem pretty thin? I know people love the GEICO ads, but is there really enough meat there to create a whole series? What’s next—the Aflac duck getting his own show? Wow, that would be something, huh? Okay, back to the cavemen—Joel (Bill English), his younger brother Andy (Sam Huntington) and best friend Nick (Nick Kroll) all share an apartment. Joel has a good job and a girlfriend (played by Kaitlin Doubleday), while Nick is unsure of the Homo sapien world around him, and Andy is embracing this new experience. Call me a cynic, but I’m not putting too much stock in this show. Cavemen works in short commercial spots, but I’m not sure viewers are that interested in learning more about their personal lives and their attempt to live in the mainstream.
