Dancing with the Stars, Derek Hough and Shannon Elizabeth

Last night on Dancing with the Stars: Season 6, a host of noteworthy events took place.

  • Kristi saw her first 8 ever.  (She scored a shocking 26 with her Viennese Waltz.)
  • Not only did Jason rebound with a 29 for his Quickstep, the football star ended up beating Kristi with his final total.  (He earned 55; Yamaguchi had 54.)
  • Despite extra padding, Shannon’s booty failed to impress the judges. (She only scored 24 for her Mambo.)
  • Marissa ended the night with a higher total than both Mario and Shannon.  (Winokur had 52; Shannon and Mario both had 51.)

Unfortunately, all of those interesting tidbits were overshadowed by Cristián’s second number.  During his Samba with partner , the actor somehow managed to painfully tweak his arm.  (You can see that performance here.) This resulted in some confusion and an eventual tumble for Burke.  The judges kindly gave the hurting guy a 21 before he was rushed off to the hospital for further evaluation.

But as we well know, this program is more or less a popularity contest....and tonight’s results show once again proved that.  Cristián either received a ton of sympathy votes after his injury or people were simply tired - like I was - of looking at ’s gangly movements.  (To be fair, with the exception of Cristián’s total, Shannon did tie for last place yesterday.)

As for Cristián’s condition, despite rupturing a tendon in his biceps, the actor has chosen to delay surgery so that he can remain in the competition.  What a stud.

You can see Shannon’s low-scoring Mambo below:
