DWTS’ Latest Injured Stars: Steve Wozniak and Steve-O

Steve-OSteve Wozniak

The Dancing with the Stars benchwarmers might want to start warming up.

Less than a week after replacing two of the program’s female celebrities, the producers are now facing several injuries on the male side.

Although he surprised audiences with a Jackass-less waltz last Monday, Steve-O is struggling to make it to Week 2. “A physical therapist has told me that nerves are being pinched in my back, and it is in spasms because of inflammation related to torn muscles. I’m doing everything I can to let it heal—icing it, taking Advil, drinking water, visiting a chiropractor and continuing to be worked on by the physical therapist. I’m still rehearsing every day, but walking through my salsa routine rather than practicing the physical stunts and tricks that are incorporated into it. It is going to be a risky routine that I hope to pull off,” the 34-year-old said in a statement.

Meanwhile, DWTS’ current lowest scorer may have to stumble through his probable dance-off next week. Steve Wozniak - who earned a 13 for his Cha Cha Cha - has just been forced to trade in his Segway for a boot. The Apple co-founder was told by the doctor that he has a fractured foot. (I doubt that explains his poor performance.)

In a letter posted on his fan Facebook page, the Apple co-founder said he would continue on as long as he could:

The doctor explained that he would tell me that I should stay off of the foot. I was desperate to keep anything absolute from being on the ‘tape’ so I kept coming around to degrees of badness of such fractures. The doctor admitted that some are worse than others. He said that in a case like mine, similar to a pro sports athlete, where it was very important to continue for a livelihood, that it might be possible, with risk, to continue.

I told the doctor how much I wanted to be on Dancing because I really loved being a part of such a good and important thing. He understood and we reached a compromise. I would wear a removable cast except during practice and I would halt everything if I got acute pain.

Steve-O and Wozniak will now be the second and third males to dance through injuries. Cheryl Burke’s partner, Gilles Marini, continued on last Monday despite feeling pain in both his groin and shoulder.
