Friday Ratings: Daytime Emmys Fail to Shine

Even though the ceremony (barely) won its hour, the 35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards couldn’t muster enough primetime attention to topple a list of repeats. CBS wound up winning the viewers and ended up in a four-way tie in the demos.
8pm

- The Daytime Emmy Awards (1.2/4 in 18-49) attracted 5.39 million soap watchers.
- Ghost Whisperer* (5.38 million, 1.4/5) was a close second.
- Friday Night Smackdown (3.86 million, 1.3/5) did the same as a week ago.
- Most Outrageous Moments* (3.77 million, 0.9/3) was down slightly.
- Planet of the Apes (3.51 million, 1.3/5) was on par with last Friday.

do the networks actually expect ratings from the daytime emmys?

Is there a reason why the ratings are so low for award shows now? The Tony Awards had quite low ratings too and I’m just curious to know. These are my thoughts…is it due to the fact that award shows have gotten quite dry, the fact that one can easily look up the award winners on the internet after the show ends? Or that YouTube or other online videos can show us which parts we want to see instead of facing 3 hours of boredom? I didn’t watch the Daytime Emmys this year because I was busy, but I think reading about it in the newspaper the next day made it seem like I watched it!
