Katie Couric, Brian Williams and Charles Gibson

Although the nightly competition between and Brian Williams is quite tight, the two journalists - along with - combined forces today to promote a joint project. In a rare event, the trio hit all three morning shows to deliver the special news. This meant a return to old stomping grounds for both Couric (Today) and Gibson (Good Morning America).

The disease, which reportedly kills 1,500 Americans every day, is something that has most likely touched everyone out there…and these three anchors are not immune. While most people remember Katie’s husband dying of colon cancer in 1998, Brian Williams has also lost a sister to breast cancer. In addition to knowing members of his family with the illness, several of Gibson’s co-workers have waged a public battle with the illness: Peter Jennings (who died in 2005 from lung cancer), Joel Siegel (who passed away last year from colon cancer) and Robin Roberts (who was diagnosed in 2007 with breast cancer).

More information on the event can be found here.

Comments:

The networks here in the United States have done a really great job of promoting causes in the past.  They had their 9/11 and Hurricane Katrine telethons, and now they are going to highlight the fight against cancer!  It is on issues like these that we need to stop our bickering and our constant competition and join together for a cause that is greater than any individual one of us…
