American Idol: Jason Castro’s Pot Smoking Scandal

Even the merest hint of scandal on American Idol is enough to whip the media into a frenzy. Such is the case with Jason Castro, dreadlocked crooner who has managed to steal many hearts with his dreamy gaze. And what goes perfectly with rumors and scandals? Photos. Well, really, just one photo will do.
Read More There’s nothing terrible unusual about this picture of a bare-chested Jason Castro....except that it, of course, shows smoke. It could be a cigarette. It could be a cigar. It could be digitally enhanced. It could literally be a house fire. It could be a lot of things. But the scandal is all in the assumption that it’s marijuana smoke. A perfectly illogical and quick conclusion, no doubt, but I can honestly see where (and why) the leap to pot would be made. For starters, Castro very often does look incredibly high while on the Idol stage (I read one blog post where the writer called him “baked“). Granted, he could just have that look - I’ve known some who do. Since Castro’s been in the competition, bloggers and reporters have alluded to this look several times, and there’s no doubt he has a very relaxed and laid-back air when other Idols look like they’re ready to jump right out of their own skin from nerves. Does this mean marijuana is behind Castro’s stress-free nature? No…but doesn’t it make a much better story? And thus, the reason there’s a scandal - nothing helps ratings quite like it.

So what if he does smoke pot? There shouldn’t be a law against it anyway!!
At a cost of $40 billion a year and 2,000 arrests a day, what exactly do we get back from the federal marijuana prohibition? It obviously doesn’t prevent purchases of the stuff by kids that’s for sure!
If we want to keep it away from kids we have to treat it just like we treat alcohol and tobacco, by licensing honest businessmen and women to sell it and imposing restrictions on its sale to prevent purchases by minors.
This country has to ask itself what it wants, Prohibition or Regulation. You can’t have both!
dude. seriously. The only reason he is so laid back is because he’s done it before. He WAS in a band BEFORE called Keeping Lions, so he’s used to being onstage. Gawd.
P.S. Please don’t believe that that’s pot smoke from Jason’s mouth. If he was high onstage, you would be able to tell because when they do close ups on his face, his pupils weren’t dialated and he wasn’t singing like freakin Michael Jackson.
Thanks for this. I got the link from a comment you left at another site and found it to be a great compilation of the story thus far. Here’s praying for the integrity of the trade
It’s not a big deal even if he does smoke pot but still, you shouldn’t just assume things that you see in stupid magazines or anything like that. Scandals are dumb and mean
