America’s Next Top Model 11: Planes, Trains and Slow Automobiles

I was starting to feel like this day would never come. The day when only six remained on America’s Next Top Model 11. (Does anyone even remember the name of the show’s first transgendered contestant??) Just as a reminder, the girls chosen to represent America in Amsterdam were Analeigh, Elina, Marjorie, McKey, Samantha and Sheena. Did anyone manage to embarrass us on their first day there? Read on!

Upon arriving in the Netherlands, the finalists were greeted by Daphne Deckers. After a brief welcome, the host of Holland’s Top Model quickly sent them on a mini-challenge. The goal was to test their navigational skills. (If you didn’t know, a good sense of direction is terribly important in the modeling world.) The girls were then broken up into teams of two and given clues to begin their scavenger hunt. The first duo to eventually reach their temporary home would share 50 extra frames at the next shoot.

Although they clearly established a mutual dislike for each other during the last episode, Samantha and Elina were forced to work with each other on this task. (Since Marjorie teamed up with Analeigh, the other European had to settle for the blonde.) And while it would not have been surprising to see them brawl before the finish line, their mutual love of extra frames drove the girls to victory. Is it possible that they could find something to finally bond over? Probably not.

Later that day, some girls chose to sleep their jet lag away while others chose to have a chatty “lesbian bath moment” (Sam’s words, not mine). Unfortunately this “vajayjay shaving party” (McKey’s words, not mine) only created a deeper wedge between the two halves of the house. NOTE TO GROUP BATHERS: If you want to have a party in a tub, make sure to keep your voices down when others are sleeping.

For their first real challenge of the week, the ladies met Miss J in Amsterdam’s famous Red Light District. Once again, the girls were divided up into teams of two for a “Red Light Fashion Amsterdam” event. Instead of standing in windows to sell their bodies, the girls would help fashion designers who are aiming to turn some brothels into fashion design showrooms.

ANTM's 11 Sheena

In the first set of windows, Sam and McKey pretended (at the designer’s request) to be dolls in a dollhouse. Although Samantha did a better job at looking “posey,” the girls coordinated their movements well. At the second location, Analeigh and Elina were tasked with showcasing romantic gowns. In this particular instance, Elina’s controlled poses worked quite well for her garment. Unfortunately, Analeigh’s dress kept getting caught in the set decorations. At the last site, Sheena and Marjorie were punked-out like characters from Bladerunner. Even though Sheena was the one prepared to go “freaky crazy,” it was shy Marjorie who excelled with her poses. The awkward girl wasn’t focused on being pretty like her partner; she really went all out.

In the end, Samantha and McKey were chosen as the winners for this challenge. Although Marjorie had the best personal effort, the selection was based on the overall team performance. (Miss J said her partner, Sheena, looked like she “belonged” in that window. Ouch!) For their prize, the winning girls were told they’d be participating in Amsterdam’s upcoming international fashion week.

Later that evening, Sam admitted that it was weird seeing women in their lingerie across the street from where she was posing. Elina, who doesn’t have a problem with prostitution, then stated her opinion. You can guess what happened next: another argument. Even though it was unclear why they were even fighting to begin with, Elina (not surprisingly) said she was feeling targeted. Whateva.

For their photo shoot of the week, the ladies met Jay Manuel for a shipping industry-related shoot. The models were going to be taken out on the water where they’d be doing modern-day twists on mid-century dress.

ANTM's Analeigh

Although she came out looking like a “monster” (Jay’s words, not mine), McKey looked like anything but. Manuel said her editorial poses had him very excited. He loved that she was creatively breaking out of her shell. Samantha, thankfully, came armed with her 25 extra frames. Her poses started off a bit rough (her feet looked “crazy bad”), but she finally evolved into a model by the end. Sheena - who played around with an Eliza Doolittle accent - couldn’t exactly figure out who she wanted to be. When she wasn’t doing can-can kicks, she was tapping into her hootchie side while straddling a beam. Elina became so focused on producing her controlled shots, that Jay’s remarks were completely drowned out. Analeigh, finally realizing that she should think like a model first, produced some of her best shots to date. Ironically, it was the first time it looked like she had brought the ice skater to the set. Meanwhile Marjorie, who has now perfected her hunchback skills, used her broken down look to her advantage. Jay was happy that she could take constructive criticism without internalizing it.

When it came time for evalutions, McKey was chosen as this week’s winner. (That was a first for her.) The judges loved her fantastic fashion photo. Analeigh with her flowy pic came in second while Marjorie and her gorgeous still came in third.

Falling in this week’s Bottom Two were Sheena and Elina. Although the judges knew Elina could take a pretty photo, they felt her control issues were now starting to make her look stiff. This made them wonder if her most recent photo was just a product of good luck. As for Sheena, the judges felt the personable girl was strugging with consistency issues. Some of her photos were okay, some were gorgeous while others were not so good.

In the end, the judges decided to keep the girl who at least knew how to keep her straddling in check. LOSER: Sheena
