Casting Corner: Vampire Diaries, The Simpsons and More

Jasmine GuySacha Baron Cohen

Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:

The Vampire Diaries: It’s gonna be a different world for Jasmine Guy. The actress has now graduated from student at A Different World‘s Hillman College to grandmother on the CW series. (How old does that make me??)  The 47-year-old will be related to Bonnie Bennett (Katerina Graham).

The Simpsons: Sacha Baron Cohen has been assigned his latest persona: An animated role on the FOX comedy. In the episode currently scheduled for Palm Sunday (March 28), Cohen will be the voice of an Israeli tour guide at the Holy Land. (The family will be touring the area with a church group.) His character is being described as “pretty angry but funny.”

Damages: A trio of actors is following a previously-announced Campbell Scott onto the FX show. Martin Short has been cast as a series regular while Lily Tomlin (Desperate Housewives) and Keith Carradine (Dexter) were given guest-starring roles. Details on all their appearances have been kept under wraps.

30 Rock: The parade of stars through the NBC comedy won’t end anytime soon. It’s just been announced that Betty White (Golden Girls) will be the latest celebrity to hit up the show. The 87-year-old, who’ll appear as herself, is scheduled to begin filming this week.

Southland: There’s been a change in roll call on the NBC drama. Only three weeks after reporting for his new full-time job, Amaury Nolasco (Prison Break) has for some reason left the program. Nolasco had been tapped to play Det. Lydia Adams’ new partner. Actor Clifton Collins, recently seen in Sunshine Cleaning and Extract, has since been reassigned to that Friday night department.

90210: Who knows more about young adult drama than Lindsay Lohan’s on-and-off girlfriend? DJ Samantha Ronson has been hired to play a deejay (natch) on the CW program. Ronson, who’ll appear along with musician Pharrell in the Nov. 3 episode, will be in charge of providing the music and love lessons for Navid. (Uhh - maybe she should keep her opinions to herself.)
