Dancing with the Stars 7: Week 5 Loser

Dancing with the Stars' Toni Braxton and Alex Mazo

Last night’s episode of turned out to be quite an interesting event. Although we are used to seeing frustration on the celebrities’ faces, we are not accustomed to seeing clueless looks on the professionals as well.

Ironically, the teachers most familiar with the new styles they were given (Tony with the Hustle and Lacey with the West Coast Swing) received some of the lowest numbers of the night. Meanwhile, those coming into their dances cold (Derek, Cheryl and Kym) scored well.

By night’s end:

  • Three competitors achieved new season highs: Cody (28 for the Jitterbug), Brooke (29 for the Jitterbug) and Maurice (27 for the Salsa).
  • Lance - after receiving his best score last week - dropped back down to a 21 for his West Coast Swing. That tied his Week 1 score.
  • Two performers remained stuck in their numbers rut. Toni got another 22 for her West Coast Swing. (She now averages a 22.3.) Meanwhile, Lucci also got a 22 for her Hustle. (Her median score is now 20.8.)

And while last Tuesday’s elimination came as no surprise, this week’s results did. Even though she wasn’t the lowest scorer in the competition (that title still belongs to Cloris), Toni Braxton just didn’t have the fan base to support her. (Maybe the viewers simply didn’t like the wig she had on yesterday?) Sadly, Len thought the singer had “all the credentials” to perform well, she just didn’t deliver that breakout performance in time.

You can review Braxton’s final performance (the West Coast Swing) below:
