Full House Remake an Empty Promise

Full HouseFor those who squealed at recent rumors that the Tanners will be returning in a “semi-remake,” the next news might be tough.

An unnamed source has said that “we couldn’t make the deal.” According to gossip, (a.k.a. Uncle Jesse) himself was pitching the idea, but the source claims “it’s completely dead right now.”

That doesn’t sound too hopeful. Full House was a successful family-themed sitcom which currently resides in cable syndication. The series originally ran on ABC from 1987 to 1995, and launched the careers of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, the (who jointly portrayed youngest daughter Michelle Tanner).

But don’t give up just yet. According to the mysterious source, called an “insider,” the show “could happen in the future.” So could Soylent Green - but no one’s investing in it.

OK! Magazine recently gleaned a few comments from Candace Cameron Bure (oldest daughter D.J. Tanner on the show). “John Stamos has actually been working on a semi-remake of Full House,” she stated. “We would revive our characters, but today, as young women.”

Uuuuhhhhh…sounds interesting? Stamos, who fell into a web of made-for-TV movies and guest appearances after Full House quit running, finally landed a regular gig with ER in 2006. The two-hour finale is scheduled to finish its extremely long run in May of 2009, which will officially put Stamos out of work again.

But, there’s one - scratch that, two - really big reasons a return to Full House won’t work for TV viewers, and their names are Mary Kate and Ashley. Fat chance one or both twins will return to the series to play a single character, and any producers Stamos tries to sell know it. The show couldn’t work without the character.
