Octuplets’ Mother Speaks to Ann Curry

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: NBC, News

UPDATE: You can watch the first portion of that interview now.

NBC may have recently lost a highly-coveted interview to CBS, but the network is now making up for it in a big way. This Friday, the Today show will begin airing clips from the first sit-down interview with Nadya Suleman.

While you might not be familiar with Suleman’s name, you’re probably quite familiar with her “accomplishments.” The California woman - already a mother of six - recently gave birth to octuplets. The 33-year-old’s interview with happened shortly after she left the hospital Thursday morning. (The newborns, still hospitalized, are currently in good condition.) Although it was rumored that Nadya would be selling her story for a big price, NBC says she was not paid for the exclusive.

When asked why she chose to have so many children, Suleman said it was a desire that stemmed from her childhood. “That was always a dream of mine, to have a large family, a huge family, and I just longed for certain connections and attachments with another person that I really lacked, I believe, growing up,” she replied.

After years of failed attempts, Nadya was eventually able to get the large family she had always hoped for. “I went through about seven years of trying, through artificial insemination, through medication. And all of which was unsuccessful. And then the first IVF procedure from that facility — it was successful. And then I just kept going in,” she added. All 14 children were conceived through in vitro fertilization.

Ann Curry will preview her interview Friday on Today. The remaining portions will then air Monday, Feb. 9 on the morning program and at 10pm Tuesday night on Dateline.

Comments:

Nadya Suleman is a single 33 year old unemployed woman with six fatherless children (one of whom has autism) who lives with her bankrupt parents and intentionally had 8 more children who will probably have long term medical problems themselves due to her stupid decisions.  Who’s going to pay for these 14 children?  The bankrupt grandparents???

Though public records show that Nadya Suleman was on the payroll at Metropolitan State Hospital until last year, it appears that she did little work (if any) after September 1999 due to a workman’s compensation injury (back injury and psychiatric condition) in which she’s received up to $165,000 in compensation.  She filed an additional claim for worker’s compensation for a separate car accident in which she argued that this car accident wouldn’t have occurred had she not been going for medical treatment for the earlier worker’s comp. injury.

Currently Nadya Suleman and her 14 children will need to be supported by taxpayers for at least the next 18 years.  Given her “history”, I’m sure she knows full well how to fund her large family and her stupid decisions.

As a card-carrying bleeding-heart liberal I feel really weird taking shots at anybody’s reproductive choices or their need for state assistance, but WTF, woman?! Not to sound paternalistic, but this woman sounds disturbed, and is obviously not in a place to be making these kinds of medical decisions.
