Gossip Girl: Apparently when executive producer Josh Schwartz said back in June that there were “no plans for spinoff at this moment,” what he really meant was: “We aren’t planning anything for Jenny Humphrey.”

After months of speculation, CW finally announced that they will be creating a backdoor pilot for what could possibly be a Gossip Girl spinoff. (This would be similar to what Shonda Rhimes did with Private Practice.) If the test run is successful, the new series would not involve any actors from the sophomore show, nor would it even be located in New York.

The idea - which was created by Schwartz and co-exec producer Stephanie Savage - would focus on the early years of Lily van der Woodsen. (As we’ve come to learn, she has a lot of untold history.) The show would take place in ‘80s Los Angeles when a then Lily Rhodes moves out of her parents wealthy Montecito home (think Oprah) to live her with her black sheep sister in the San Fernando Valley. While there, she attends public school (oh the horror!) and is introduced to life in Hollywood and on the Sunset Strip. Although she’ll eventually come to meet her future love, Rufus Humphrey, that is not expected to happen until later in the possible series.

The flashbacks/introduction will be seen in a special May 11 episode and will apparently tie in with a Lily and Serena storyline.

The L Word: WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD!! If you’re the type of person who likes to read the back of a book first, this bit of news might excite you. The execs at Showtime are working to create a prison-based spinoff of the female-oriented series. So what would that entail? Well, if the idea is picked up, that would mean someone - specifically Alice Pieszecki (actress Leisha Hailey) - will find herself behind bars by the end of Season 6. Why would Alice be jailed? Because she maybe had something to do with the death of Jenny Schecter (Mia Kirshner)?

According to Showtime’s entertainment president Roger Greenblatt, the show (currently titled The Farm) would be like a “a female Oz” but apparently “not as dark.” So it would be like something on Skinemax??

NCIS: A spinoff of a spinoff? Well, if you’re CBS - originality isn’t exactly necessary.

The network that already has a gazillion crime shows - including three versions of CSI - is on its way to producing a another version of NCIS. (Keep in mind, that Mark Harmon program exists thanks to JAG.)

Although a cast has not yet been assembled, CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler assured the press at the Television Critics Association press tour that the project was a go. “We’ve seen an outline. We’re in great shape, and we’re just waiting to get the script. But we’re going to cast, and we’re going to shoot.”

The team for the new cast will be introduced in an episode of the regular NCIS before the end of the season.
