Gunn’s message comes at a time of crisis for gay youth. Startling recent headlines reveal massive bullying, teasing and even violence against homosexual or effeminate adolescents and teens across the United States. Several teens have attempted to kill themselves in recent weeks as a way to escape the torment they face.

“I understand the desperation,” Tim Gunn says in the video. “I understand the despair. And I understand how isolated you can feel.” He encourages kids to “reach out” and “get help,” promising “You’re not alone. It will get better - I promise.”

The message is a PSA for The Trevor Project, which will help children and teens in their sexuality and identity struggles. The project can be reached at 1-866-488-7386.

According to , the cast of Glee wants to take on the issue of gay suicide as soon as possible.

Matthew Morrison, who plays Will Scheuster, spoke to reporters about it recently. “Ryan [Murphy, the show’s creator and mouthpiece] wants to do an episode about it, which I think is very smart of him.” Morrison said the episode “would be this season if it were to happen.”

“I just saw the tragedies on the news the other night,” Heather Morris, who plays Brittany Pearce, added. “I just found out today about the episode, and I think that’s amazing.”

Cast members Jessalyn Gilseg (Terry Scheuster) and Kevin McHale (Artie) were also supportive of the idea, and seemed eager to take it on.
