A&E Banks on 80s “It” Boys

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Reality, Cable, News

Corey Haim and Corey Feldman The 1980s were a blur of Reagonomics, yuppie consumerism, and, of course, the two Coreys. Corey Haim and Corey Feldman became the “It” boys of the late 80s, their visages plastered all over young girls’ bedrooms soon after they appeared together in that classic vampire flick The Lost Boys. The Coreys became a huge sensation whether separate or together, and for several years it seemed the teen heartthrobs could do no wrong. In his career, Feldman has appeared in more than one hundred movies (seven of them with Haim). Then, the Coreys suffered the curse of young Hollywood: a decline into substance abuse, forays into rehab, and the decimation of once-promising careers. Such is the agony of being a child star. They’re both 35 now, and believe it or not, they’re back courtesy of A&E’s almost-reality TV.

In The Two Coreys, Haim and Feldman will be reunited and in front of cameras again. Corey Haim will move in with Corey Feldman and his wife, Susie. Is the show completely unscripted? No. Is it still a sort-of reality TV program? Yes. Is all that confusing? Some of the scenarios are set up, but Haim and Feldman promise the emotions, at least, are real.  On the show, Feldman is being portrayed as the child star who grew up, got his act together, and created a normal life for himself, while Haim is the stuck-in-his-youth bachelor friend. Both born in 1971, the two Coreys have been best buds both on and off screen, despite the career crash both suffered at a relatively young acting age.

The show is officially on the A&E network, though details are sketchy as to when The Two Coreys will hit the air. Early reports say that Haim will “shake things up” in the Feldman household, which is not only home to Corey and Susan but also houses their son. Scripted, unscripted, real or not real, The Two Coreys are back…and this time they aren’t doing 1980s pop kitsch teenybopping films. They’re actually on a network that’s usually considered “serious,” and they’re going to try their hands at small screen success. Could this be the beginning of a Haim/Feldman comeback? Perhaps it’s time for another Dream a Little Dream film, yes?

Comments:

These two used to be my favorites when I was younger, grew up with them and owned all their films. Was wondering if there has been any update on this show? It sounds great, a little unoriginal but still great to see how they have changed. But I can’t find any information on it apart from here.
