Test Trivia Knowledge with VH1

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Games, Prime Time, Reality, Cable, Renewals

DescriptionVH1 is bringing back the World Series of Pop Culture for a second season this summer, promising more obscure trivia, more teams of three, and more money to give away. Though VH1 has been known for coming up with some real bombs in the past (what exactly is the deal with Charm School?), the World Series of Pop Culture last year offered a bevy of interesting trivia and quite a few teams that were almost impossible to root for. Will this year’s competitors hold more appeal?

Pat Kiernan, best known for his role as anchor of Time Warner’s NY1 News, will return as the host of the Pop Culture showdown. Kiernan’s dry delivery and tongue-in-cheek humor was a highlight of last year’s World Series, and there’s no doubt he, at least, will be entertaining for this second season.

The show is pretty simple: starting out with sixteen teams of three, competing teams face off in head-to-head contests until only two final teams remain. In the beginning rounds, only six questions (and as many tiebreakers as needed) are asked of one contestant from each team. Whoever holds the most points at the end of each round will win, while the losing team member is forced to slink off stage and watch from a nearby gallery. The last team standing wins, and moves on to another round to face more teams in this huge pop culture trivia challenge. In the final round, ten questions are asked. Being the World Series of Pop Culture, questions don’t just focus on music (and neither does VH1, anymore, finding most of their success from really low-brow reality productions) but on the entire spectrum of pop culture. Last year’s categories included “Tom Cruise Movies,” “Animated Television,” and “Fictional Locations.”

VH1’s World Series of Pop Culture begins its second season with a whole new round of competitors beginning July 9, 2007 at 9pm ET. Think you know your pop culture? Test your skills, and find out if you’d be able to take home the $250,000 grand prize.

Comments:

Hey, I just saw a spot on VH1 that worldofpop.com (the show’s website) is going to have a trivia contest online at 10pm every night after the show which has a $2500 prize. Then after the finale show on 7/20 there will be a $10000 grand prize. At least I have another chance at some $$ even though I didn’t make it on the show!
