Thursday Ratings: Fringe Hangs by a Thread

Just because FOX benefitted from the World Series doesn’t mean its programs did. Last night’s return of Fringe hit a series low in the demos. Meanwhile, the other networks resumed their old ways. ABC placed first yesterday with the 18-49s while CBS was on top with the viewers.

8pm

• Survivor: Samoa (12.7 million, 3.7/10 in 18-49) was up slightly.
• FlashForward (8.5 million, 2.6/7)  was off by 500,000.
• Approximately 8.5 million welcomed back Bones (2.5/7).
• Community (5.6 million, 2.3/6) picked up 100,000; Parks and Recreation (4.9 million, 2.2/6) slid by 100,000.
• The Vampire Diaries (4.2 million, 2.0/5) did about the same.

Wednesday Ratings: A Win-Win for New York and FOX

Last night’s baseball game ended in a victory for both the New York Yankees and the network. Wednesday’s finale helped bring the overall series average to 19.4 million viewers.

8pm

• Game 6 of the World Series (7.4/20 in 18-49) drew in 22.3 million.
• The New Adventures of Old Christine (2.1/6) was good for 7 million; Gary Unmarried (2.0/5) registered 6.7 million.
• Mercy (1.7/5) checked in 6.6 million.
• Hank (1.4/4) nailed down 5.3 million; The Middle (2.0/5) drummed up 6.1 million.
• America’s Next Top Model (4 million, 1.7/5) raised 500,000 more.

30 Rock: If James Franco doesn’t watch out, he might start liking this TV thing and never turn back. The Milk star has not only lined up a stint on General Hospital, he will also appear as himself on the Emmy-winning comedy. Although NBC would not confirm the casting, it’s believed James will have a faux celebrity romance with Jenna (Jane Krakowski).

Tuesday Ratings: Americans Welcome the Visitors

Where were you when the visitors arrived last night? Yesterday’s highly-anticipated debut of V had the best 18-49 performance for any new series this season. Its audience numbers also came in right behind the premiere of NCIS: Los Angeles for freshman programs. Unfortunately, that one show couldn’t carry the whole network. CBS still won in the viewers and had a tight victory in the demos.

8pm

• NCIS (19.4 million, 4.2/11 in 18-49) was the most-watched program last night.
• V (13.9 million, 5.0/13) had the best demos of the evening.
• The Biggest Loser (9 million, 3.4/9) hit its lowest 18-49 mark this season.
• So You Think You Can Dance (6.1 million, 2.4/6) lost 400,000.
• 90210 (1.1/3) clocked in 2.1 million.

Monday Ratings: FOX Slides Into First

Game 5 between the Yankees and the Phillies was also charm for FOX. Last night’s meeting had the biggest audience for a fifth outing since 2003.

• Approximately 17.1 million were glued to the World Series (5.3/14 in 18-49).
• Dancing with the Stars (16.2 million, 3.3/8) was the most-watched outside sports.
• How I Met Your Mother (3.5/9) had 9.1 million laughing; Accidentally on Purpose (3.2/8) turned in 8.5 million.
• Heroes (6.2 million, 2.6/7) improved by 300,000.
• One Tree Hill (2.4 million, 1.1/3) was off by 300,000.

Sunday Ratings: Yanks Steal Another Win

The Yankees struck another one out of the park last night for FOX. The game between New York and the Philadelphia Phillies was easily the hottest ticket this Sunday.

• Game 4 of the World Series (7.8 rating in 18-49) rallied 22.8 million.
• The Amazing Race (11.1 million, 3.2/8) was on par with last week.
• Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (10.8 million, 3.4/8) was up slightly.
• NBC’s broadcast of National Treasure (1.7/4) entertained 4.6 million.

• Heroes (NBC, 8pm):  “Hiro has another chance to save Charlie (Glee‘s Jayma Mays) when he travels three years into the past, where he also encounters Samuel.” NBC has now resorted to reversing time to steal FOX’s thunder.
• Accidentally on Purpose (CBS, 8:30pm):  “Billie and Zack have their first big fight after Zack, hoping to surprise Billie, installs a low-flow toilet without consulting her first.” She didn’t appreciate having to flush twice after her #2’s.
• The Big Bang Theory (CBS, 9:30pm):  “Sheldon tries to teach Leonard the fundamentals of football.” Despite his wealth of knowledge, Sheldon still couldn’t explain the cheese-on-heads ritual.

Friday Ratings: Smallville Shows Strength

Every once in a while a move to Fridays isn’t such a bad thing. Although some shows have been known to fade away, CW’s Smallville actually hit a season high with the 18-49s this weekend. That performance, of course, didn’t keep CBS from winning in both the viewers and the demos.

8pm

• Ghost Whisperer (8.3 million, 2.0/7 in 18-49) was down by 200,000.
• Law & Order (7 million, 1.4/5) also fell by 200,000.
• Supernanny (4.8 million, 1.3/4) added on 100,000.
• A 2-hour House* repeat (3.8 million, 1.2/4) did better than last week’s programming.
• Smallville (2.6 million, 1.2/4) picked up 100,000.

Thursday Ratings: FlashForward Goes Backward

Thanks to the World Series, FlashForward lost its forward progress last night. The ABC drama fell to a demo low when pitted against sports action.

• Game 2 of the World Series (17.1 million, 5.3/14 in 18-49) was down 2.4 million from the first outing.
• Survivor: Samoa (12.5 million, 3.7/10) lost 400,000.
• FlashForward (9 million, 2.7/8) fell by 800,000.
• Community (5.5 million, 2.1/6) picked up 300,000; Parks and Recreation (5 million, 2.1/5) remained even.
• The Vampire Diaries (2.0/5) drew in 4.3 million.
