Alicia Silverstone, who is set to star in NBC’s sitcom The Singles Table, if ever it gets a timeslot, is appearing in a new PETA commercial. In the buff. The 30-second ad features the blond beauty getting out of a pool saying, “I’m Alicia Silverstone, and I’m a vegetarian. There’s nothing in the world that’s changed me as much as this. I feel so much better and have so much more energy.” And did we mention she’s naked? The actress, who peaked at Clueless, then seemed to fizzle, is showing first-hand how being a vegan has been the best course for her body. Once criticized for her weight gain, Silverstone said, “Once I went vegan, I lost the weight I wanted to lose, my nails were stronger, and my skin was glowing. I feel great!” To borrow a phrase (from Clueless, which I have a fond place for in my heart if only for the delicious Paul Rudd), Silverstone is such a Betty.

Lost’s Dominic Monaghan back on the Big Screen
Posted by Shannon Bennett Categories: ABC, Lost, Talent

For those of us still reeling from the (ambiguous?) departure of Charlie from ABC’s Lost, there’s news of Dominic Monaghan hitting the big screen again in the near future. Dom will be starring in I Sell the Dead, a new horror/comedy from director Glen McQuaid about lowlife Victorian Graverobbers who hock stolen bodies to “men of science.” Principle photography has recently wrapped, so hopefully something more exciting than the admittedly cheesy trailer will be hitting the net soon. Expect great things from Dom in his first leading role. Check out the website for updates and photos. The tagline may amuse Lost fans in reference to the late Charlie’s new role - it reads, “Never Trust a Corpse.”

Britney and K-Fed Meet To Discuss Divorce Details
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Talent, Gossip, Rumors
Britney Spears at the VMAs has received a lot of media attention, but the former pop superstar has bigger fish to fry than poor media exposure. Wednesday, Spears sat down with Kevin Federline in the office of her attorney, Laura Wasser, to work out the details of their well-publicized custody battle. Each arrived to the meeting separately, which fell on the same day as their son Jayden’s first birthday. Since July, K-Fed has been trying to get primary legal custody of Jayden and Sean Preston, as well as more money per month from Spears. Federline’s attorney has already filed paperwork requesting $50,000 from Spears to cover his legal expenses, as well as an increase in monthly support payments of $20,000. If he’s spending more than twenty large on living every month, his rent is too *&%$ high. A lot of people live on $20,000 a year. A Friday hearing will determine whether or not certain documents relating to the divorce will be made public, something neither Brit nor K-Fed really wants.

What Went Wrong with Britney’s VMA Performance?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Award Shows, Music, Reality, Cable, MTV, Talent, Gossip, Rumors
If you’ve somehow missed the disparaging comments about Britney Spears on stage at the VMAs, you’re a better person than me – because I’ve found it’s totally unavoidable. The first day, the comments centered on Brit’s off-beat performance, her lethargic dance moves, and her completely lackluster stage presence. The second day, the news was filled with remarks about Brit’s body. The songstress has never been afraid to show off what she’s got, but critics are saying the mother of two should be covering it up instead. Video of Brit’s performance is absolutely everywhere for those that missed the MTV broadcast, and for those who just want to have a good laugh a second time around. Several reporters claim to have “the real story” behind the big B-bomb that landed on stage during award night. But does anyone, other than Spears herself, really know what went wrong?

The Story Behind Mary-Kate Olsen’s Frown
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Showtime, Talent, Gossip
If you’ve ever seen a tabloid photo of Mary-Kate Olsen and wondered “what’s the deal…is she pissed or something?” – the answer is yes. The 21-year-old twin sat down recently with Entertainment Weekly to talk about the paparazzi, a problem to which all her Hollywood contemporaries (and not a single fan of hers) can relate. Mary-Kate told the magazine she doesn’t want her picture taken, and that it’s only “okay” at the red carpet or during a photo shoot. Olsen covers her face and doesn’t like to smile when her photo gets shot – which accounts for at least some of the tragic pictures of her that have appeared over the years. Mary-Kate’s 10-episode stint on Weeds will begin this month.

A New Wrinkle in the Anna Nicole Smith Saga
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Reality, Talent, Gossip, Rumors
Just when you thought the Anna Nicole Smith headlines were over and everyone was going to get back to their lives, Blonde Ambition: The Untold Story Behind Anna Nicole Smith’s Death had to come along and give us something new to gossip about. The book will hit stores Tuesday, and the fur has already started to fly. The text of the novel alleges that Larry Birkhead, who won the paternity case for Anna’s surviving child Dannielynn, and Howard K. Stern, who claimed to have a deep love relationship with Anna, are both planning to sue the book’s author Rita Cosby. Here’s why: the book alleges that Stern and Birkhead shared a sexual encounter before Anna Nicole’s death, then worked together to manipulate the media and glean profits from the tragedy. Birkhead admits he has not seen the book, but in a bold statement told the AP this will be “the most expensive lawsuit settlements in book publishing history.” Yowzah.
Stern has stated that he will aggressively pursue a libel case. Stern’s attorney is calling the book pure fiction. Cosby stands behind her book and her sources, saying the text of the book was run past attorneys and the publishing house prior to publication. The book is filled with allegations concerning a “secret deal” between Stern and Birkhead, though Birkhead says the timing of the book (the week marks the anniversary of Daniel’s death and Dannielynn’s birth) was calculated. Cosby says she wrote the book specifically for Dannielynn…though it isn’t likely the baby knows quite how to read just yet, and the subject matter surely won’t be appropriate for her until a decade or two has passed.

Simple Life star and famous celebutante Nicole Richie has been booked and released from jail…in under two hours. Richie was assigned to complete four days at the LA County Sheriff’s Department as part of her December 11 DUI arrest. Richie was spotted driving the wrong way on the 134 Freeway, and admitted to arresting officers she had consumed Vicodin and marijuana. Richie was sentenced to four days in jail, three years’ probation, asked to pay a $2,048 fine, and must take alcohol education classes. Nicole reported to the Century Regional Detention Facility at 3:15 pm to check in. She was processed and released at 4:37 pm. Though this quick catch-and-release might sound odd, it’s actually part of standard procedure. The Sheriff’s Department is already under federal order to reduce jail overcrowding, but crime hasn’t slowed down. This leaves the Department will few other options. Thousands of inmates have been released before their full sentences have been completed, not just famous inmates.

Lindsay Lohan, who was allegedly under the influence of drugs during her last DUI arrest, is being sued by a woman who allegedly a passenger in the car Lindsay was allegedly chasing. Tracie Rice, the suer, says that Lindsay put her through a frightening experience, and that what she did was dangerous and reprehensible. Yet, it’s perfectly fine to continue to pile problems on an obviously troubled girl – nothing wrong with that, because she’s rich, right? Rice is claiming intentional infliction of emotional distress on her suit, citing unspecified damages and payment for this emotional distress. The lawsuit further states that Rice, during the car chase, was in fear for her life.

Friends of Nicole Richie say the mother-to-be wants to get her wedding planned and completed as quickly as she can, mostly so the baby belly won’t show up in her wedding photos. The guest list will include about two hundred of Richie’s closest friends, a large wedding that doesn’t lend itself to quick planning. Richie would like to be married before September 28, when she’s due to appear in county jail for her DUI conviction. Lionel Richie’s Bel-Air home has been offered to Nicole and Joel as the site of the wedding, and the singer has even agreed to sing at his daughter’s wedding.

The family of Ronald Goldman has struck up a new deal with literary agents to publish and repackage O.J. Simpson’s “If I Did It.” The book is about the slayings of Goldman and Simpson’s ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson. The family will leave Simpson’s manuscript completely intact, adding their own commentary to the pages. Portions of sales of the book will go to the Ron Goldman Foundation for Justice. The book was set for release last year, but public outrage kept it off the shelves because of the gritty subject matter: in the book, O.J. explains how he would have committed the murders – though he maintains throughout that he did not, in fact, commit them.
