MONDAY (10/13)

  • Chuck (NBC, 8pm):  “Sarah’s ex-flame and partner, Bryce Larkin, makes an unforeseen return and goes undercover with Sarah as an overly affectionate couple.” Unforeseen return? I predicted he would come back last year!
  • Little People, Big World (TLC, 9pm):  Season 5 premiere. “Matt travels to Baghdad to help dwarf children in need of medical attention.” By doing so, he has now milked new meaning out of the show’s title.
  • Samantha Who? (ABC, 9:30pm):  Season 2 premiere. “Sam teams with her mom in a dance competition against Regina’s nemesis (Cybill Shepherd) and her partner, who just happens to be a ringer.” Why do I always find myself rooting against Cybill Shepherd?
  • My Own Worst Enemy (NBC, 10pm):  Series premiere. “The implant in Henry Spivey’s brain that separates the two identities begins to malfunction, leaving each side fighting for dominance.” On one side, we have the who excelled in Heathers. On the other side, we have the Slater who stunk in Mobsters.

VH1’s unexpected reality hit will return for a second season as soon as October 23. For those of us who got addicted to the series, it’s a been a long, hard detox (made tolerable at times only because the media has done its best to keep us all apprised of casting news, future tidbits and other behind-the-scenes extras). Need a quick fix? VH1 has unveiled the Rehab trailer to give us all a little dose of what we’ve all been missing. Ready for a relapse?

DirecTV Out of Line With Newest Ad?

Share

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Commercials, Gossip, Video

DirecTV logoWe giggled when Christopher Lloyd talked about the future of DirecTV for a commercial spot. We laughed when Kathy Bates and William Shatner joined the fray. We ogled Baywatch-era Pam Anderson tout the service for her spot. We fell over in hysterics when we saw the Scooby Doo advertisement. But now, DirecTV may have twisted the funny bone of some viewers a little too hard. Their latest ad, just another in a long string of past pop culture references, has inspired some pretty heated controversy.

The ads were drawing attention even before the campaign hit the fan. Using the same actors and scenes but different lines, the service has promoted itself as an alternative to cable by putting us once again back in our favorite movie moments - as if to prove that the second time around really can be better than the first with DirecTV. They’re funny, they’re clever and they’re working. Er…they were.

90210 to Reunite Walsh Twins?

Share

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Prime Time, The CW, Gossip

Brandon and Brenda Walsh fans (many of whom are really just Beverly Hills, 90210 fans, now older but perhaps not wiser in their TV choices) have been waiting for the day when the new series will reunite two very important members from the original cast: Brenda and Brandon Walsh. New buzz suggests that Jason Priestley and Shannen Doherty may be paired on the show again…just not the way we really want.

Priestley has at last agreed to appear on the set, though not to reprise his role as Brandon. Instead, he’ll come back to direct. Priestley previously directed eighteen episodes of the original series way back in the 90s, and has more recently directed a couple of episodes of the ABC Family hit .

“I think I sort of ran the gamut with Brandon - 249 episodes,” said to Access last June. “I think Brandon did his time.”

But Brenda did not. CW reps have confirmed that will do two new episodes for the series. Will Priestley direct his on-screen sister? On that issue, the CW isn’t confirming or denying the possibility. “I think it would be a kick for Jason,” said executive producer Gabe Sachs. “But we don’t know whether that will happen yet.”

NBC Tries to Remake Aussie Hit

Kath & KimNBC’s will premiere tonight at 8:30 pm EST. And though the new series featuring Selma Blair and Molly Shannon (a comedy duo who should be perfect together) is being touted as a “sitcom following a dysfunctional mother-daughter duo and their adventures in middle-class suburbia,” the reviewers are taking a decidedly less lighthearted stance. The Boston Herald called the series a “problem child,” while zap2it said the first two episodes were “pretty laugh-free.” This is not the sort of response a comedy featuring two such gifted actresses should receive.

The series was a huge hit in Australia, which pretty well guaranteed it would find a home on American shores eventually. NBC picked up the remake baton and cast Blair as Shannon’s spoiled, thick-as-a-brick daughter (though the two are actually separated by only eight years in age). plays Kath, spandex-wearing and man-hunting, to Blair’s Kim, a celebrity-obsessed, would-be trophy wife.

On this week’s episode of , the girls learned that modeling wasn’t just about showing up and looking pretty. It was about discovering who you were and not being afraid to let go. It was about knowing your best traits and embracing your warts.

Given Clark’s recent elimination, the remaining eight ladies realized they couldn’t afford to take their critiques for granted. Elina still had to overcome control issues, Lauren Brie had to deliver a personality and Analeigh needed to find her niche.
