CBS Cancels Moonlight, Renews Mother
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Sci-Fi/Horror, CBS, Cancellations, Renewals

Yesterday, we named those shows recently cut by the major networks. Now we know which CBS programs will be added to that dreaded list.
The freshman dramas receiving the ax include Moonlight and Shark. Although fans of the vampire series did their best to campaign for the cult fave, their passion simply didn’t equate to ratings. (I’m sure the network feared they’d end up with another failed Jericho in their hands.)
Meanwhile, those programs being spared include: How I Met Your Mother, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Rules of Engagement and The Unit. It seems Britney Spears might be good for something after all…

Possible Extended Season for Heroes
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Sci-Fi/Horror, NBC, Heroes, News, Rumors
Although last year’s writers strike cut many production schedules in half, the work stoppage may actually create a scheduling windfall for viewers next season.
When Heroes debuted in September, the series was originally slated to deliver 24 episodes. Unfortunately, fans were left with only 11 by the time the saga ended. (Given the dipping ratings, maybe some time off was really in the drama’s best interest.) According to Entertainment Weekly, the shortened calendar may now translate into an extended 2008-09 season. It’s possible we may see up to 35 episodes next fall.
Those of you still wanting to catch up better mark your calendars now. Heroes will kick off its return with a three-hour event on Monday, September 15.

Jennie Garth Officially Returns to 90210
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, The CW, Gossip, News
Although she might have been able to parlay her recent popularity into something more original, Jennie Garth has instead chosen to follow up her work on Dancing with the Stars with another return to Beverly Hills.
It’s just been announced that the former 90210 actress will make recurring appearances in the upcoming CW spinoff. Ever since Garth pulled out of an opportunity to star in a pilot for CBS, it was suspected this move was going to happen. Strangely enough, the character - who once co-owned a clothing store with Donna - will now become a guidance counselor at her old stomping grounds, West Beverly. Wow - that’s so Miss/Guided of her!
Maybe returning to (far too) familiar territory was really the lesser of two evils for Garth. If the CBS comedy wasn’t picked up, she could have ended co-hosting Your Momma Don’t Dance with DWTS alumni Ian Ziering.

AMC Renews Breaking Bad
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Cable, Editorial, Renewals
If you only watch AMC for the occasional classic movie, you’re missing out on so much more. The channel’s first original drama series, Mad Men, won the a Golden Globe for Best Drama back in January. One week later, Breaking Bad was introduced. And let me assure you, that show is just as worthy of praise as was its predecessor.
The show, created by Vince Gilligan (X-Files), centers around a chemistry teacher (Malcolm in the Middle’s Bryan Cranston) who produces crystal meth on the side. When he is diagnosed with terminal cancer, he secretly tries to raise funds for his pregnant wife and handicapped son. Fortunately for fans, the intriguing concept - which ended after only seven episodes - has just been renewed for another thirteen.
Breaking rivals anything that can be seen on the major networks and should satisfy anyone who loves a Six Feet Under-esque tone. Those who weren’t able to watch the drama during its original run should not fret. You can easily catch up via iTunes before Season Two begins.

Family Guy’s Fate on FOX
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Animation, Comedy, Prime Time, FOX, Gossip
Home of the nation’s number one show, 20th Century Fox will soon be paying one of their writer/producers one of the biggest salaries in TV. Here’s the twist: that person doesn’t work on American Idol.
Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy and American Dad, will become the best-paid writer/producer on TV thanks to his new contract. The agreement ensures that Family Guy will remain on the air until 2012, but it also covers a few other projects still in the till. Under the terms of the contract, MacFarlane will continue to pen episodes of American Dad as well as The Cleveland Show (a planned Family Guy spinoff). “I get a lot of pleasure out of making show,” said MacFarlane to the press. “It’s a bonus to get getting paid well for it, and it’s a double bonus to be getting paid exorbitantly for it.” The amount in question remains undisclosed, though it is expected to soar above the $60 million, five-year contract offered to J.J. Abrams (Lost) in 2006.

ABC Axes Men in Trees
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Cancellations

Well, it’s not like we didn’t this one coming…
Back in March, underdog Men in Trees was rudely pushed aside to make room for Women’s Murder Club. At that time, I said the program’s dismal ratings probably had something to do its inconsistent treatment. Now ABC has finally made it perfectly clear how it feels about the struggling show. The network has just officially cancelled it.

Lindsay Lohan Finds Work on Ugly Betty
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, ABC, Gossip, News
What was initially discussed last fall is now finally developing in time for sweeps. And as far as Lindsay Lohan‘s career is concerned, it probably couldn’t happen at a better time.
On May 22, the film actress will appear on ABC’s Ugly Betty. Lohan will play a former nasty classmate of Betty’s who has had seen her luck change in recent years. When the guest star role was originally conceived, Lindsay was going to be cast as a manager of a fast-food restaurant. It’s unclear whether that is is still the plan for her character.
In addition to the season finale, Lohan will receive checks for five more Ugly Betty appearances next fall. Let’s just hope all this work will keep her out of the clubs.

Project Runway Goes LA
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Bravo, Cable, News
Apparently supermodels really like a good change.
First, Tyra Banks decided to move her daytime talk fest from Los Angeles to New York. Now, Heidi Klum is scheduled to do the exact opposite. Though in the latter case, the switch will not be permanent.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Project Runway‘s sixth outing will be split between NYC and LA. This city-hopping move will apparently accommodate Klum’s personal and work schedules much better (but make everyone else’s a living hell). The following year, things will return back to normal in New York.
As for the reality hit’s fifth season - the last one on Bravo - that too will still be set in the Big Apple. That installment can be seen starting this July.
