Jay Leno’s Second Tonight Show Debut

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Late Night, NBC, Video,

opened his return to The Tonight Show with a Wizard of Oz montage which featured a surprise cameo from Betty White. He would need the star power, as his guest list for the night wasn’t all that amazing.

“I’m Jay Leno, your host. At least for a while,” he shot his opening volley, made a reference to “Dave” Letterman and “Oprah” Winfrey and made a few fast-paced Olympic quips. Leno’s not looking so hot, his lightning-speed timing is hard to follow and you’ve got to wonder how long he’s going to last as the Tonight host.

No monologue references to , which may or may not have been a mistake. His Tiger Woods jokes, albeit rather old news at this point, were pretty good.

Dancing with the Stars 6: Week 4 Loser

DWTS, Adam Carolla

Last night on Dancing with the Stars: Season 6, we saw a large group of stars reach new personal highs with their dances.  Although it wasn’t a surprise to see Kristi Yamaguchi come so close to a perfect score (she received the first two 10’s of the season), it was a bit of a shocker to see Jason Taylor surge past former leader Mario.  (The football player also scored two 10’s.)

While they may not have been scoring 29’s, other celebrities made waves for themselves as well.  ‘s paso doble earned the actor his best marks ever (26), Shannon overcame partner issues to rack up her highest total (28) and Marissa dug herself out of a hole with a committed performance (24).

Last Monday, the Top Ten competitors did their best to impress with either the Tango or the Jive.  By Tuesday, Adam had improved, Mario had stumbled and Steve was eliminated.

This week on , the celebrities were introduced to either the intense Paso Doble or the romantic Viennese Waltz.  Did Kristi finally deviate from her boring three 9’s…and was Marissa simply boring?  Read on!

For its second results show, went back to the solo elimination system.  Misery may love company, but only one couple will end up getting the boot from this point on.

If the choice was based on Monday’s scores alone,  (19) would have been the one to go. The Broadway performer was the only person - and that includes Adam Carolla - who failed to surpass 20 points yesterday.  But viewers taking all three past dances into account would have probably put either Adam or Steve on the block.  Those two men averaged only 18.3 points per performance.

Two down, ten to go.  Last week on the , the celebrities were tasked with mastering either the Quickstep or the Mambo.  Those results helped in eliminating magician Penn Jillette and tennis star Monica Seles the following day.

This week, the amateurs took on either the fiery Tango or the fast-paced Jive.  Which performers eased into their dance like a fish to water and which ones simply got in over their heads?  Read on!

Without a token model to cast off this time around, the viewers of ultimately based their first set of votes on sheer ability.

For the show’s first double-elimination, there were little surprises to be had.  After Monday’s numbers were combined with last week’s scores, magician Penn Jillette and tennis star Monica Seles both found themselves one foot out the door.  (Their grand totals of 33 and 30, respectively, were the lowest of the competition.)  Tonight, the fans gently pushed them the rest of the way out.

At this stage last fall, Josie Maran and Albert Reed were the first two to be let go.  The real shockers didn’t start developing until several weeks in.  Could we eventually see a Sabrina Bryan-esque elimination this season?  If so - when do you think it will happen?  Place your bets now!

Dancing with the stars, penn

The division of the sexes formally ended on tonight’s .  All twelves couples gathered for their last chance to dazzle the viewers before Tuesday’s dreaded double-elimination.

Last week, and Monica Seles scraped the bottom of the scoring barrel (15 points each) while Mario and (24 and 27 points, respectively) made it known they were the ones to look out for.  How did the celebrities fare with Monday’s dances?  Did they do anything in their second outing to change their standing in the competition?

Dancing with the Stars 6: The Men Debut

Dancing with the stars, Adam Carolla, Julianne Hough

Dancing with the Stars: Season 6 kicked off tonight with another interesting range of participants.  This time around we had a football player, an R&B artist, a magician, a radio DJ and two actors.

For the show’s first week, the men had Monday night to themselves.  (The ladies will take their floor tomorrow.)  This will all lead to the very first double-elimination next week (one man, one woman) after all 12 couples get another chance to perform.

How I Met Your Mother

(You can view TV Envy’s Post-Strike Television Schedule here.)

MONDAY (3/17)
  • Dancing with the Stars (ABC, 8pm):  Tonight’s Season 6 premiere focuses only on the men.  I think it’s safe to say Julianne Hough won’t be making it a three-peat with .
  • The Big Bang Theory (CBS, 8pm):  New episode.  “Sheldon and Leonard are asked to a physics conference to present their work together.”  I’ve always wondered - if this show were to air on any other day, would it be half as successful?
  • How I Met Your Mother (CBS, 8:30):  New episode.  “Ted decides to live life like Barney on St. Patrick’s Day.”  You don’t want to know what they use as their lucky charms.
  • Two and a Half Men (CBS, 9pm):  New episode.  “Charlie teaches Alan how to break up with a woman.”  I hear hiring prostitutes can make a woman leave you.
  • The Bachelor (ABC, 9:30):  Season 12 premiere.  “Bachelor Matt Grant, a 27-year-old British financier, meets his 25 would-be soul mates.”  Apparently in America, you can finally afford to woo twice as many women as you can in the UK.
