Britney Spears and Russell Brand in New VMA Plug

At this time last year, Britney Spears was still trying to learn Russell Brand’s name. This time around, she can’t stop repeating it.

In this commercial for next month’s VMAs, the pop princess not-so-secretly wonders if she’ll score a personal invite from the two-time host. “Should I have played it up more when he was flirting with me last year? I have to admit there is something sexy about his dangerous ways,” she asks.

Meanwhile, the comedian worries he may have offended her during their last series of spots. “Some of those things I said could have been construed as offensive. I hope she don’t think ill of me.”

The 2009 Video Music Awards air live on September 13.

Britney Spears Funny and Fabulous on Letterman

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Late Night, Prime Time, CBS, Gossip, Video

delivered a funny Top 10 - and lots of eye candy - on Tuesday night’s Late Show with David Letterman. The pop princess is still touring for her album Circus, so the performance wasn’t delivered in person. Since Spears was clad in a tiny little bikini, it’s doubtful the viewers cared that she didn’t appear on the Letterman set.

Britney Spears Returns to David Letterman Tonight

Whenever and David Letterman get together, something newsworthy eventually happens. So what should we expect from her Top Ten reading this evening?

In the past, Spears’ appearances have coincided with big moments in her life. During her May 2006 visit to Late Night (posted above), the pop star confirmed she was pregnant with her second child. The day after her November 2006 stop (you can see that clip after the jump), she filed for divorce from Kevin Federline.

It’s been almost three years now since Britney’s last chat with Dave—could she possibly have something new to offer us? You might want to set your Tivo just in case…

Promotions Begin for American Idol 8

Now that Dancing with the Stars has officially wrapped up, it’s time to shift our focus back to reality television’s reigning giant: .

With only 6 weeks left to go until the January premiere, promotion for Season 8 has officially begun. On today’s episode of The View, Randy Jackson tried to put everyone at ease about the new judging addition. When asked if was brought in because of an eventual Paula departure, the producer quickly shrugged off the rumor and told everyone not to “believe what you hear or read.”

But should Paula decide to pursue “other ventures” as is speculated, would she even be missed? That’s hard to say. But in a recent interview with Extra!, Simon Cowell was actually kind enough to pay Kara a compliment. “She’s mouthy, this girl. I’m beginning to warm to her… I think she knows what she’s talking about,” he admitted.

This Week on TV (12/1-12/7)

Barbara Walters and Tom Cruise

(You can view TV Envy’s Master Programming Schedule here.)
MONDAY 12/1)

  • Shrek the Halls (ABC, 8pm): Hopefully this Mike Myers laugher will help us all forget The Love Guru.
  • Inside the Actor’s Studio (Bravo, 8pm):  “Daniel Radcliffe, star of the Harry Potter film franchise, charts his career journey.” I’m not sure I want to see James Lipton enthusiastically talking about Radcliffe’s nude Broadway performance.
  • Heroes (NBC, 9pm):  “Ando, Sam and Frack try to restore Hiro’s memory with a comic book.” Any person trying to follow this series should be given an instruction manual.
  • Boston Legal (ABC, 10pm):  “When Denny receives bad news about the state of his Alzheimer’s, Alan goes before the Massachusetts Supreme Court to plead for access to an experimental drug that can help his condition.” Alzheimers? Maybe Shatner simply forgot why George Takei dislikes him so.

This Week on TV (11/24-11/30)

Michael Chiklis in The Shield

(You can view TV Envy’s Television Programming Schedule here.)
MONDAY (11/24)

  • Dancing with the Stars (ABC, 8pm):  After ten weeks, it all ends tonight. Sadly, I can’t even remember the names of the first two eliminated.
  • Samantha Who? (ABC, 9:30):  “Sam invites boyfriend Owen (James Tupper) for dinner to meet her parents, but Owen and Howard don’t hit it off.” Seems Howard doesn’t approve of his relationship with Anne Heche either.
  • Valkyrie: The Plot to Kill Hitler (History, 10pm):  “Recalling Operation Valkyrie, a failed plot devised by German officers to assassinate Adolf Hitler.” By choosing this documentary over the version, you’ll be able to save a few more bucks for Christmas.
  • The Hills (MTV, 10pm):  “Audrina confronts Lauren and Justin after rumors circulate that the two hooked up.” By “confront,” we mean Audrina has them refer to the television interviews she’s conducted on the topic.

Britney Spears in the Spotlight

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Reality, Specials, MTV, Gossip

was in court recently to discuss plans for her future, which could include a tour. A spokesman told reporters “there was a discussion of Ms. Spears’ future immediate business plans. Particularly touring in support of her album.”

Her latest album, Circus, debuts on the anniversary of her birth, December 2 (Spears will be 27). It can only be assumed the tour will follow on the heels of this event.

Spears will soon appear in a 90-minute MTV special schedule to air on November 30 (and no doubt, endlessly re-run afterward). The documentary, filmed three months ago, is titled Britney Spears: For the Record. She’ll discuss her marriage and subsequent divorce from as well as her current comeback.

Brit also talks candidly about her own feelings and fears. In one scene, as she heads toward the VMAs (where she eventually took home three awards), Spears admits worrying that MTV will show footage of her the year before. “I’m sad,” she confesses at one point.

But with a new tour in the works, an album that’s sure to be a hit and this new MTV deal, Brit’s not in a bad place. We’ve seen much, much worse.

Christina Aguilera’s Goth Look Failed to Mask Bad Performance

Christina Aguilera performing her latest hit at the 2008 VMA

To begin, I will be outright honest and admit that I tuned into MTV’s 2008 Video Music Awards last night in hopes of seeing Britney Spears make a [second] comeback performance, despite the comments from her people saying that she definitely would not appear. So I held out until the end of the show, surprisingly allowing myself to concede to an awards show I was clearly out of touch with (the only video I had seen prior to the night was “Piece of Me”).

With that being said, I was still very much excited by all of the performances throughout the night, save Christina Aguilera‘s sad excuse for one.

Britney Spears and the VMAs

Failed performances or not, we should have known that ’ relationship with the VMAs would never be completely over.

While it’s still unclear whether the singer will be hitting the MTV stage again anytime soon, Spears has offered her improved self to several of the event’s promos.

Still not sure who Russell Brand is? Well, you probably aren’t the only one. In the following clip, the comedian tries to teach the pop star his name.

Will Britney win either of the two categories (Best Female Video, Best Pop Video) she’s nominated for? Find out when the 2008 Video Music Awards air on September 7.
