Night of Too Many Stars | Thursday, October 21, 2010

Stars like Tom Hanks, Betty White, David Spade, Maya Rudolph, Cedric the Entertainer, George Clooney, Jason Alexander, Zack Galifianakis, Drew Carey and the Geico gecko (to name just a few) crowded onto a single set to answer phones for Comedy Central’s Night of Too Many Stars: An Overbooked Benefit for Autism Education -- and they were just the in-between act. The cable network outdid itself on Thursday night, interspersing live phone segments with the pre-recorded, gala event held weeks ago in New York City.
Highlights from the pre-recorded theater event include the tuneful moment that reunited event host Jon Stewart with former Daily Show contributors Stephen Colbert and Steven Carrell. The latter two delivered a rousing song written for 2008 about Captain Sullenberger. The “Chocolate Rain” YouTube sensation made an appearance, and the song was so good even Jon Stewart was compelled to join in mid-chorus.

Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear Announcement
|
The Queen of daytime had a gift for two of late night’s Princes (okay…jesters) on Thursday night. Comedy Central host Jon Stewart started his Daily Show with the usual jokes regarding the day’s events…but he was soon interrupted by channel-mate Stephen Colbert.
After some ribbing (Stewart) and cajoling (Colbert), the two announced that they will be combining rallies. That’s right: The "Rally to Restore Sanity" and The "March to Keep Fear Alive" have merged to create The "Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear.” Seeing the two of them on center stage was great fun, but they were soon trumped by someone with more clout than the they both have combined.

South Park to Target Jersey Shore
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Animation, Comedy, Prime Time, Cable, Gossip,
Finally.
South Park will make MTV’s Jersey Shore even more laughable on Wednesday night. That’s when the reality series will be spoofed on the animated series. The episode features “Jerseyites” who arrive in Colorado. Randy and Stan Marsh will defend the town against the onslaught.
The cast of Jersey Shore are looking forward to seeing themselves on Comedy Central. “I Always Wanted To Be On South Park !!!” Pauly D tweeted upon hearing the new. “SOUTH PARK GOES JERSEY SHORE! WEDNESDAY! Yes! Finally!!!!!” Snooki added moments later.
Let’s hope they’re still being good sports come Thursday morning.

Colbert Nation Pushes for Truthiness Rally

The Colbert nation has spoken…will the Comedy Central host answer?
Comedy Central fans have organized their own campaign to prod Stephen Colbert into hosting a “Restoring Truthiness” rally in response to Glenn Beck’s recent “Restoring Honor” rally, which was strongly backed by the GOP.
The idea seems to have sprung from a post on Reddit, and everything has snowballed since. A Facebook page and website have now been created for the rally, which has been given an October 10, 2010 date. A locale for the rally has also been named: Washington, D.C.’s Lincoln Memorial, where Beck held his event. Fund-raising and merchandising will help fund the rally. Any remaining monies will be donated to the charity of Colbert’s choice.

Moment of Zen - Jon’s Important Announcement
|
At the close of Tuesday night’s The Daily Show, Jon Stewart made a surprising announcement: he will soon be making an announcement.
Stewart made it clear that he “will have an announcement at some time,” which means “in the near to not-so-near future.” What he has to say may in fact be “the most important announcement in history … equivalent to 7.3 Gettysburg Addresses.”
“I don’t know what it is,” Stewart admitted. “Though I have my suspicions…and if I am right, it’s going to be huge.”
View the entire hilarious announcement teaser in the video above…and try to guess where Stewart is going with all of this.

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Cable, Video,
In one of the funniest Web Redemptions ever, Daniel Tosh of Comedy Central fame flew three young American Idol fans to LA to meet David Archuleta. Of course, it wouldn’t be Tosh.0 without making the girls jump through a number of hoops before meeting their American Idol.
The truly funny skit features a three-judge audition session, a pulse-pounding elimination round as led by “Ryan Seacrest” and a coup de grace ripped right from the pages of the Se7en script. Watch the video above to see the entire Redemption.

Stephen Colbert to Celebrate Returning Troops
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Late Night, Talk Shows, Cable, Video,
Stephen Colbert will give returning troops a true homecoming with two special episodes of The Colbert Report. The two-episode event will not be the first time the Comedy Central funnyman has honored Iraq war soldiers; he previously went to Baghdad for a special series of broadcasts issued from the combat zone.
Iraq war veterans and active service members will fill the audience on September 8 and 9. Other groups of soldiers will visit the set via satellite from Afghanistan, Iraq and the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D. C. In typical Colbert fashion, the episodes are aptly named: “Been There: Won That: The Returnification of the American-Do Troopscape.”
Vice President Joe Biden, Senator Jim Webb and General Ray Odiermo will be among the special guests lined up for the event. Odiermo is a “friend of the show;” he shaved Colbert’s head when the comedian previously hosted the series from Baghdad.

-Levi Johnston may be done with Playgirl, but there’s still a family to feed. Now, Johnston and fiancee Bristol Palin are shopping around a reality show. Interested parties have to commit to a full series - not just a pilot.
-Meanwhile, Aubrey O’Day already has another program in the works. The former Danity Kane singer and Making the Band star will now front The Aubrey O’Day Project. The Oxygen show will focus on O’Day’s attempt to make a comeback in the music industry.
-Who’s the hottest guy on Comedy Central? It’s not Stephen Colbert or Jon Stewart. It’s Daniel Tosh. Tosh.0‘s second season has been topping both The Daily Show and The Colbert Report in viewers and demos.
-Teen series Degrassi is introducing a new first this school year: the show’s first transgender character. The groundbreaking series began its latest season last night on TeenNick.
Religious Activists Rally to Stop New Series…Before it Starts
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Animation, Comedy, Prime Time, Cable, Editorial, Gossip, Video,
Comedy Central’s new animated series is still little more than a twinkle in the eye of the cable network. So far, there is no film on the series and nothing has officially started, but even so a religion-based coalition is doing absolutely everything in their power to put it to a stop. It’s sort of like trying to halt production on a car that’s still being debated on the drawing board.
The cable network made waves when it announced upcoming plans for an animated series starring Jesus Christ (son of God, water into wine, that one), but now the disturbance has turned into a typhoon of conservative proportions.
The presidents of the Media Research Center, Family Research Council, Catholic League and Television Council have helped to form the Coalition Against Religious Bigotry. Also in the fight: reps from the American Alliance of Jews and Christians and a talk radio host. Their first target: a tiny little animated comedy series which doesn’t even exist yet.
Anyone else get the feeling that maybe the Coalition Against Religious Bigotry has bigger fish to fry? (Pun intended).
