TV Scoop: Oprah on LiLo, ‘Dexter’ Spin-Off, New ‘Walking Dead’ Trailer

Melissa McCarthy+ Not surprisingly, Lindsay Lohan hasn't made things easy for her latest project - a reality show set to air on Oprah Winfrey's OWN network. When asked about the progress of the show, the famed TV mogul said that "there have been bumps" with filming.

+ With the disappointing series finale of Dexter, fans of the crime thriller will be pleased to know that Showtime president David Nevins is - despite some reluctance - hinting at a spin-off starring Michael C. Hall, who portrayed the eponymous anti-hero.

+ AMC released a new trailer for the second half of The Walking Dead that wasn't too much of a teaser, considering that everything in TWD world looked more or less the same as it did in the mid-season finale.

+ Funny lady Melissa McCarthy is set to host Saturday Night Live for the third time during Super Bowl weekend with Imagine Dragons appearing as the musical guest.

Dexter’s Season 7 Trailer Unveiled

Showtime released the trailer for Dexter's upcoming season seven, which undeniably left fans meticulously analyzing its frames.

With all eyes on the brother-sister/lieutenant-criminal relationship between Michael C. Hall's Dexter and Jennifer Carpenter's Deb, little room was left for the rest of the characters, leaving Quinn (Desmond Harrington) and Batista (David Zayas) completely out of the trailer and the new possible baddie, Louis Greene (Josh Cooke), with a mere couple shots.

Ricky Gervais Plays God in New Series

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, Announcements, News,

Ricky GervaisOffice creator Ricky Gervais is to play God. The comic star is working with Dexter producer Clyde Phillips on new TV show Afterlife, in which he will play the Almighty, however, his interpretation of the all-powerful being will not be the usual benevolent creator of the human race.

"Anyway, I play God. (My version will be) an arrogant, wisecracking son of a bitch, who thinks he's the best thing since sliced bread. Actually he thinks he's the best thing ever because, well, he is. He also loves welcoming atheists to heaven with a smug grin on his face," Gervais said of his character.

Gervais also insists the show is not an "atheist comedy," and has warned potential viewers not to expect a "twisted bloodlusty anti-religious fest" just because of Phillips' work on Dexter, which follows the double-life of serial killer Dexter Morgan.

"We've come up with this show because we think it will be fun, different and entertaining. Not to undermine the moral fabric of America," he explained.

2011 Golden Globe Nominations (TV)

Boardwalk Empire

The Golden Globe contenders for the 2010-11 season were officially announced Tuesday morning in Beverly Hills by Katie Holmes, Josh Duhamel and Blair Underwood.

Last year's Best Comedy Series winner, Glee, lead all television programs with a total of five nominations. Five series -- 30 Rock, Boardwalk Empire, Dexter, The Good Wife and Mad Men -- tied for second place with three nods each.

Here are some of the notable omissions/inclusions from this year's list of nominees:

  • The Good Wife was the only non-cable series to be recognized for Best Drama.
  • The Walking Dead replaced that other horror series (True Blood), giving AMC two nominations in the Drama category.
  • The limitations of the Best Supporting Actor category meant only two acting noms for the cast of Modern Family.
  • Jennifer Love Hewitt has found herself pitted against Claire Danes ... and Dame Judi Dench.

The 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards -- hosted again by Ricky Gervais -- will air Jan. 16 on NBC.

(You can find the full list of nominees after the jump. Click here for the film nominations.)

VIDEO: Julia Stiles Talks Season 5 of Dexter

Although we’re still not clear what will be doing in the upcoming season of Dexter, we understand why the actress is “giddy with excitement” over her new role.

Despite being “horrible with gore,” Stiles signed on to play “Lumen” – a woman that’s being described as “psychologically and physically damaged.” (As if we’d expect anything less from a character on that show.)

So how will Lumen figure into all of Dexter Morgan’s mounting problems? Find out when the program returns to Showtime on September 26.
