New Details on High School Musical 4
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Kids, Music, Cable, Gossip
It’ll be West Side Story meets East High for the latest installment of High School Musical.
Although the major players from Disney’s hit trilogy have decided to move on, the studio is continuing with plans to extend its franchise. The fourth movie - aimed once again for the small screen - will focus on a new student roster. According to the press release, fans will have a “classic love triangle set against the cross-town school rivalry between the East High Wildcats and West High Knights” to look forward to.
While it’s possible some of the characters introduced during Senior Year will appear in the made-for-TV film, no casting decisions have yet been revealed. The only vets announced so far are screenwriter Peter Barsocchini and executive producers Bill Borden and Barry Rosenbush.
Production on High School Musical 4 is set to begin later this year in time for a 2010 debut.

HBO Offers Free Access to Obama’s Opening Ceremony
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Specials, ABC, Cable, HBO, Cable/Satellite, News
UPDATE: You can find a list of performers for that HBO program here.
Although most of us are currently without tickets for Barack Obama‘s big day, those with cable or satellite service will have front row seats to the first major event of Inauguration Week.
On January 18, HBO will exclusively air the festivities from the Lincoln Memorial. The program is expected to be filled with A-list performers including a rumored appearance from Bruce Springsteen. Unlike the channel’s coverage back in 1993 (when Bill Clinton was welcomed into office), the 90-minute event will also be open to non-subscribers.
On Monday the 19th, the Disney Channel will be the sole broadcaster of “Kids’ Inaugural: We Are the Future.” The event honoring military families will be attended by Michelle Obama and Jill Biden. Then on Tuesday the 20th, ABC will have exclusive access to “The Neighborhood Ball: An Inauguration Celebration.” That is where the Obamas are expected to perform their first dance of the evening.

Disney Plans Camp Rock Sequel
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Kids, Music, Prime Time, Cable, Ratings

Although the movie didn’t pull in High School Musical 2-sized numbers, Camp Rock did well enough on Friday night to warrant interest in a sequel.
The Disney Channel original, which featured the red-hot Jonas Brothers, debuted to 8.9 million viewers making it the highest-rated non-sequel to air on that network. (HSM2 had 17.2 million glued to their sets last August.) Rock also outperformed anything from the Top 5 networks on that same night.
Assuming a script is finalized soon (and schedules are coordinated), the key players could get back to work on the sequel’s production sometime next year.

Hannah Montana Movie Comes to Small Screen
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Kids, Music, Prime Time, Cable
Sorry parents. Who knew when you purchased those IMAX tickets months ago that the 3-D Hannah Montana movie would soon be offered for free?
In hopes of giving your kids something to do this summer, the Disney Channel has chosen to dedicate a week in July to teen star Miley Cyrus. Only July 20, the cable channel will air a fresh episode of Hannah Montana. Six days later, a marathon of shows will lead up to the television debut of Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour.
Those unable to see the movie when it originally debuted can still get a bit of that 3-D experience at home. TV Guide will be offering glasses in its July 21 issue.

Miley Cyrus To Skip Scheduled Disney Appearance
Has the house of mouse grounded Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus?
The Associated Press reports that Cyrus will skip a media event Friday to coincide with the end of taping of the Disney Channel Games.
The event would be Cyrus’ first scheduled public appearance since the scandal erupted over pictures the 15-year-old took with famed photographer Annie Leibovitz for the June issue of Vanity Fair.
The photo in question shows a bare-backed and shouldered Cyrus wrapped in a silky swath of fabric suggesting a bed sheet, though flaks for Vanity Fair say it was actually a shawl. The photo has sparked furious debate over whether the picture is too sexually suggestive for a 15-year-old girl, let alone Disney’s most lucrative starlet and the current “It Girl” of the tween set.

High School Musical 4 Already Being Planned
Please don’t confuse this post with something we wrote earlier this month. With production on High School Musical 3 just about underway, Disney has already moved on to its next project: High School Musical 4.
The cable channel confirmed that they are already in scriptwriting mode for the franchise’s third sequel. Although the current installment will be heading directly to the big screen, HSM4 will be another made-for-TV movie. At least that’s what they’re saying now.
At this point, no cast has been announced for the latest venture. (Most of the original actors have claimed they were done after three.) But who knows - if Tori Spelling is willing to come back to the 90210 spinoff, anything can happen.
My theory? This is all connected to the summer reality series based on the musical. At this point, no one seems to know what the ‘winners’ will be getting. I’m guessing it’s their opportunity to be the latest Disney stars.

High School Musical 3 To Begin Shooting This Month
Posted by Jacci Lewis Categories: Kids, Music, Prime Time, Cable, Cable/Satellite, News
Talk about a dream come true for High School Musical fanatics who just happen to attend East High School in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The third installment of the wildly successful Disney Channel original made for TV movie is set to begin shooting before the end of this month according to the Associated Press.
The two previous High School Musical films were shot primarily at East High School outside of the school year. School district officials say most of the shooting on this film, High School Musical 3: Senior Year, will take place before and after classes to minimize disruptions for actual East High School students.

‘Hannah Montana’ Star Sued
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Kids, Music, Cable, News
Miley Cyrus, 14-year-old daughter to Achy Breaky Billy Ray Cyrus, is being sued by her fans. Yes, even the Disney Channel’s darling isn’t immune to outrage.
According to the lawsuit, fan club membership was supposed to guarantee concert tickets to the Hannah Montana tour. It didn’t, so now they’re suing. The action was started by a woman in New Jersey who has invited other jilted fans to join the cause. The suit claims fans were deceived and “lured” into buying memberships to the Miley Cyrus Fan Club, which costs $29.95 annually.
The Hannah Montana star has been selling tickets like hotcakes; many of her engagements have sold out within minutes.
