Rod Blagojevich and Wife to Appear Together on The View
Posted by Jacci Lewis Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, ABC, Gossip

Daytime talk show The View has become the No Excuses jeans of the new millenium. You remember No Excuses jeans, right? No Excuses Sportswear spent the late 80’s and early 90’s capitalizing on infamous media stories by using the women involved in those stories to model their cheesy blue jeans. Donna Rice (disgraced Presidential Candidate Gary Hart’s “Monkey Business” lap mate) and Marla Maples (the reason for Donald and Ivana Trump’s divorce) are just a couple of the flash-in-the-pan media darlings who squeezed into a pair of No Excuses for a quick buck and some extra noteriety.

Watch Shepherd’s Fight with Hasselbeck on The View
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, ABC, Syndication, Video
Although Sherri Shepherd was once known Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s conservative ally, the comedienne has been started to drift further away from her co-host politically.
On today’s episode of The View, the ladies questioned whether certain events should be dredged up in the presidential campaigns. Needless to say - they had very different opinions on the matter. (Things start really heating up around the 3:45 mark.)
McCain Also Caught Talking About Lipstick on Pigs
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, ABC, Syndication, Gossip, Video
Haven’t heard the latest controversy about pigs wearing lipstick? Well, then you haven’t been watching the news.
Today, Barack Obama is being fired upon from John McCain’s camp about comments he made during a speech yesterday. When talking about his opponent’s plan for change, the Democratic candidate chose to use this colorful analogy: “You can put lipstick on a pig, it’s still a pig.”
And while that phrase has been used many times before, McCain supporters felt Barack’s “sexist” comment was aimed directly toward Sarah Palin (the “Pitbull with Lipstick”). Unfortunately, the Republicans also failed to realize that their own candidate had used that same analogy about a certain female contender last year.
In today’s episode of The View, the ladies of the table talked about the two different soundbites. (You can watch both of them here.) If you listen closely, you might also hear Elisabeth Hasselbeck defend Barack Obama…
Whoopi Goldberg Makes Elisabeth Hasselbeck Cry
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, ABC, Syndication, Gossip, Video
Regardless of whether you agree with the topic at hand, it’s always a great day on The View when a co-host ends up crying. It’s even better day when Elisabeth Hasselbeck is the one doing it.
On today’s show, things became quite tense between Elisabeth and Whoopi Goldberg during a discussion about the “N” word:
Another Tense Exchange on The View
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, ABC, Gossip, Video
Followers of The View are used to hearing a difference of political opinions on a daily basis. But every once in a while, a particularly tense exchange will perk up our ears.
Check out the moment when Whoopi Goldberg becomes exasperated and rolls her eyes at co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck. (Who could blame her?) Hasselbeck later returns her own courteous gesture when she insincerely listens to what Goldberg has to say.
Elisabeth Hasselbeck Forces Barry Manilow to Cancel
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, ABC, Syndication
I’m not sure whether to consider this silly or hilarious…but I’m going with the latter.
Crooner Barry Manilow has apparently canceled a scheduled appearance on tomorrow’s episode of The View. The reason? A disagreement in politics. The Copacabana singer told TMZ that he considers conservative Elisabeth Hasselbeck to be ‘dangerous and offensive’. Although he’s currently on a promotional tour, he is refusing to ‘share the same stage as her’ because of their differences in opinions. It’s not clear why the gig was ever scheduled to begin with.
Any guess how long it will take Rosie O’Donnell to write a haiku about this?

Whoopi—Rosie, Version 2?
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows
So, it was Whoopi Goldberg’s first day as co-host of The View—you would think she’d lay low with controversial discussions… um, I don’t know… until the second or third day? Perhaps in an attempt to spice up the conversation a la prior hostess Rosie O’Donnell, Goldberg weighed in on the Michael Vick dogfighting issue. She came to his defense, saying that, in the South, where Vick is from, dogfighting is commonplace. According to Goldberg, “It’s like cockfighting in Puerto Rico. There are certain things that are indicative to certain parts of the country.” Now, while I understand this show is a platform for individual “views” (hence, the name), and it may be true that in the South this is not uncommon… I have to ask, isn’t there some shred of decency and common sense that might prevail over the need to fight dogs and kill them? I don’t think there’s much defense for anyone conducting this sort of business, and I have to question celebrities and professional athletes that have so much going for them and then do something stupid. Vick will be sentenced in December and has been suspended indefinitely by the National Football League.

‘The View’ To Announce Replacements
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, ABC, Rumors
For months now, our view of The View has been constantly changing. A long roster of guests have helped to help fill the seat once occupied by Star Jones Reynolds. And occasionally, Whoopi Goldberg has sat in the first seat left cold by Rosie O’Donnell.
The guessing game should end next week when producers are expected to announce permanent replacements. Frequent seat-warmer Sherri Shepherd is finally expected to move from contract to permanent status. (As many times as she has spilled her life story to those ladies, I would be incredibly upset if she did not get the gig). As for the other slot? That has Whoopi’s name written all over it. Apparently, this means all rumors of a possible gay counterpart will probably be squashed.
Unfortunately, ABC’s Human Resources Department will only be getting a quick break. Their job recruitment services will again be on demand soon when Elisabeth Hasselbeck goes on her maternity leave.

Rosie Off ‘The View’
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, ABC, Gossip, Rumors
Well, at least she went out with a bang. Snip, Snipe—she and co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck got into an on-air war of words Wednesday, complete with split screen debate (those clever producers). The political feud over Rosie’s view about the war in Iraq made headlines and, of course, web gossip. As a result, Rosie O’Donnell isn’t gonna hang around for her final three weeks on The View. ABC announced that O’Donnell won’t be back to complete her remaining contract, instead asking for an early leave. Barbara Walters commented, “Rosie contributed to one of our most exciting and successful years at The View. I am most appreciative. Our close and affectionate relationship will not change.” Can’t you just sense Walters’ relief over the early departure? It has been a turbulent year on the show, and although they enjoyed better ratings with Rosie, the numbers came at a cost—Rosie’s outspoken manner made many headlines, most notably her battle with Donald Trump. Unfortunately, her early departure leaves us without the typical Rosie musical spectacular that she would have likely commissioned on her last appearance. Am I upset about that? No way.

Rosie O’Donnell Apologizes for Comments to Co-Host
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, Gossip
Rosie O’Donnell’s big opinions have gotten her in trouble again. This time, she butted heads with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck on Wednesday’s show. While the show is called The View, I believe the format’s intention is to be a bit more tolerant of other people’s “views,” especially when you’re sharing the same table. Rosie and Elisabeth couldn’t see eye-to-eye on whether or not the government should be privy to citizens’ telephone conversations. Elisabeth was ok with it, but Rosie was not and berated her on the show, saying, “Elisabeth, you are very young, and you are very wrong.” Thursday, Rosie posted an apology on her web site via haiku (ugh, enough with the haikus already). The poem began, “i said some of elisabeths comments were ignorant / which was ignorant itself.” There was no mention of the incident on Friday’s show, so seems life will go on for The View‘s ladies.
