2009 Screen Actors Guild Awards

Last January, the Screen Actors Guild Awards was considered a pleasant distraction from all the writers’ strike business. Since the actors now face their own work stoppage, this year’s event once again served as a nice diversion.
With the Academy Awards less than a month away, tonight’s ceremony gave us a better idea of how that broadcast might pan out. Was Kate Winslet another double-winner this evening? Did Mickey Rourke wrestle an additional victory? Is Heath Ledger on his way to that posthumous Oscar? Get all the details after the jump!

2009 Golden Globe Awards

One year after a strike-induced absence, the drinking resumed. Although the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards drew its usual set of followers tonight, this year’s program carried even more significance than usual. The reason? Heath Ledger.
With or without the Dark Knight nomination, the ceremony would have been interesting. Was this going to be the year a film about an Indian game show (Slumdog Millionaire) won top prize? Would either Meryl Streep (Mamma Mia, Doubt) or Kate Winslet (Revolutionary Road, The Reader) walk away with two awards? Could Mickey Rourke‘s comeback performance in The Wrestler earn him a surprise win over Sean Penn (Milk)?
To find out the answer to these questions (and many more), you can read our detailed coverage after the jump!

One Colbert Nation Under All?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Cable, Daily Show, The, Gossip,
Daily Show fans got a surprise treat this week when Stephen Colbert rode in on a wagon pulled by Uncle Sam. This, on an episode already promising prestigious actress Meryl Streep. Colbert pulled out a bale of hay and kicked back to enjoy a brew he produced from within, accepting a huge round of applause from Comedy Central studio fans. Colbert gave Stewart a note card containing questions he wanted asked, then surprised fans with his official announcement to officially consider whether – or not – he was going to run for the office of the President of the United States of America. Colbert added that he hoped to make the announcement of his decision on a more prestigious show. Fifteen minutes later, on The Colbert Report, he did.

The 2007 Academy Awards: Live Commentary
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Award Shows, Specials, ABC, Editorial, Features,
Welcome to our live coverage of the 79th Annual Academy Awards! During our live-blog of the 2006 Oscars, I made what may now be considered an eerie prediction about Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe:
“For some reason, I keep getting this nagging feeling that their relationship will dissolve sometime soon, but that discussion is for another post.”
I’d like to say that I’m psychic (if so, that Oscars pool at work is all mine)...but I’m going to have to chalk it up to nagging intuition. What is that little voice inside me saying this year? While some races may have been locked up months ago (I’m talking to you, Helen Mirren), there will be a shocker this year. I can’t pinpoint the category, but I think it will be come riding in on a big yellow bus…
To find out who will be going hog-wild tonight during the Year of the Pig, stay tuned here for the live results!
