Family Guy’s Not So Live Comedy Show on FOX

Going sans Simpsons for the night, FOX gave their entire Sunday night line-up to Seth MacFarlane, creator and main voice talent of . Two brand-new episodes of the series, a fresh installment of the spin-off and a half-hour special featuring the man himself took up every last moment of the prime time bloc.

Could this be the dawn of a new, MacFarlane-driven era on FOX? Will Family Guy programming, and related shows, soon take up all of Sunday night?

Microsoft Pulls Out of Family Guy Special

Apparently there are things won’t do to promote Windows 7.

The software corporation recently announced that it has severed ties from a FOX event it was set to exclusively sponsor. Family Guy Presents: Seth & Alex’s Almost Live Comedy Show, a special airing next month, would have incorporated bits about the company’s new product in lieu of traditional commercials. Unfortunately, the execs had a change of heart after watching a taping earlier this month.

Although animated portions of the variety special reportedly cover controversial subjects like incest, feminine hygiene and the Holocaust, those segments were supposedly in line with a typical episode. It’s the live segments Seth MacFarlane and Alex Borstein (Lois Griffin) taped before an audience that may have been considered questionable.

Family Guy’s Stewie Outed

Stewie Griffin

Creator and voice talent for , Seth MacFarlane sat down recently to do an interview with Playboy. During the discussion, he mentioned that youngest member of the household Stewie (the diabolical baby with matricidal tendencies) is homosexual.

“We had an episode that went all the way to the script phase in which Stewie does come out,” he revealed. Apparently, the episode revolved around Stewie’s problem with kids in school, resulting in a time-travel excursion to the writing of the Bible. MacFarlane says Stewie’s sexual preference explained “why he’s so hellbent on killing [Lois Griffin] and taking over the world. He has a lot of aggression, which comes from confusion and uncertainty about his orientation.”

I never knew so much thought and character development went into Family Guy, myself. The episode MacFarlane describes never made it to air, as it was decided to keep the matter ambiguous.

Not anymore!

Sneak Listen: Controversial Family Guy Abortion Episode

The cast gathered recently for a live table read of the upcoming abortion issue, which has already made headlines in the media. So, did FOX’s animated prime time comedy tread very carefully around this hot-button issue? If you’ve got to ask, you just aren’t familiar with the show.

The episode, “Partial Terms of Endearment,” features a plot in which Lois Griffin (wife to title character Peter) becomes a surrogate mother for two friends. The couple goes on to die in a car accident, leaving Lois to ponder of the mysteries of life and possible abortion for the fetus she’s carrying. This story installment wouldn’t be dubbed “the abortion episode” if it didn’t feature Lois at least considering all her options.

FOX to Bring Bones and Family Guy Together

David BoreanazStewie Griffin

In what could be one of the strangest cross-promotions FOX has ever tried (ponder the weight of that statement a moment), the night time drama Bones will soon feature an animated character from the ribald comedy . That’s right, FOX fans: David Boreanaz and Stewie Griffin will soon share screen time.

Evidently, Boreanaz’s character will suffer hallucination-generating health problems during episodes of which will air in May. He’ll end up in Quahog, Rhode Island, home to the animated Griffin family. “This is going to sound odd,” began executive producer Stephen Nathan, “but it is a completely believable event.”

He’s right…that does sound odd. And extremely, wholly unlikely.

Family Guy’s Fate on FOX

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Animation, Comedy, Prime Time, FOX, Gossip

Family GuyHome of the nation’s number one show, 20th Century Fox will soon be paying one of their writer/producers one of the biggest salaries in TV. Here’s the twist: that person doesn’t work on .

Seth MacFarlane, creator of and American Dad, will become the best-paid writer/producer on TV thanks to his new contract. The agreement ensures that Family Guy will remain on the air until 2012, but it also covers a few other projects still in the till. Under the terms of the contract, MacFarlane will continue to pen episodes of American Dad as well as The Cleveland Show (a planned Family Guy spinoff). “I get a lot of pleasure out of making show,” said MacFarlane to the press. “It’s a bonus to get getting paid well for it, and it’s a double bonus to be getting paid exorbitantly for it.” The amount in question remains undisclosed, though it is expected to soar above the $60 million, five-year contract offered to J.J. Abrams (Lost) in 2006.

‘Family Guy’ Continues Without Show’s Creator

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Animation, Comedy, FOX, 24, Family Guy, House, News

Family Guy castFOX has been hit especially hard by the writers’ strike, and already some big ratings shows are off the schedule. There will be no 24, no more House, and all the network’s scripted shows are pretty much up in the air. So, FOX is going to go it alone.

Though creator and voice talent is on the picket line with the other writers, the network is producing new episodes of the hit animated comedy without his input. (Last Sunday’s episode was the last episode completed pre-strike.)  Although MacFarlane told FOX they could continue the show without his him, he hoped they would not.  Unfortunately, that’s just what they’re doing. Best of luck.

MacFarlane, by the way, voices main characters Peter Griffin, dog Brian and homicidal son Stewie.
