Conan O’Brien Still Rivals with Jay Leno

Jay Leno and Conan O'BrienConan O'Brien admits that the feud between him and Jay Leno remains fierce.

The bitter rivalry began in earnest in 2010 when, barely six months after replacing Leno as host of The Tonight Show, Conan was ousted from the show. "In some ways, that was more intense than Jay versus Dave [Letterman]. It felt like the younger guard [supporting Conan] against the old guard [Leno]. People were having rallies, making videos slamming NBC, and NBC was thinking, 'How is Conan doing this?' I was being credited as a genius when I didn't have the slightest idea who these people were," Conan told ShortList magazine.

Conan - who now hosts a new self-titled talk show - added that some of his most ardent fans even went so far as to get a tattoo as a show of support. He was, however, quick to point out that he didn't necessarily appreciate the gesture. "They've tattooed my face on their body. I always feel like, 'Look, I'll pay to have that removed,'" the talk show host added.

Jimmy Fallon and Will Smith on 'The Tonight Show'

Robert DeNiro, Lady Gaga, Lindsay Lohan and Mariah Carey were among the surprise guests on Jimmy Fallon's debut Tonight Show last night. The former Saturday Night Live star anchored his first show from New York and took the time to mock a "buddy" who bet him he would never land the job, prompting a host of famous faces to come out and honor the bet.

"To my buddy who said that I'd never be the host of The Tonight Show - and you know who you are - you owe me a hundred bucks, buddy," he said. DeNiro then walked through the curtains and handed the host a $100 bill, and was quickly followed by Tina Fey, Joe Namath, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Mariah - who appeared to pull her $100 from her cleavage - Tracy Morgan, Joan Rivers, Kim Kardashian, Seth Rogen, Lindsay , Sarah Jessica Parker, Mike Tyson, Gaga, and Stephen Colbert, who emptied $100 in pennies over Jimmy's head.

Jay Leno Says Goodbye to ‘Tonight Show’

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Comedy, Late Night, Talk Shows, NBC, News,

Jay LenoJay Leno has filmed his last ever episode of The Tonight Show.

The TV host wrapped filming on the chat show last night after over 20 years at its helm last night and fought back tears as he thanked viewers for their loyalty. "Boy this is the hard part... The first year of this show I lost my mom; the second year I lost my dad. Then my brother died and after that I was pretty much out of family. The folks here became my family. When people say to me, 'Hey, why don't you go to ABC, why don't you go to Fox?' - [but] I didn't know anybody over there. These are the only people I know," he said towards the end of the show.

The 63-year-old funny man was joined by a galaxy of stars for his last ever broadcast at the Burbank Studios in California, including Kim Kardashian and Billy Crystal, who led everyone in a comedic rendition of The Sound of Music's So Long, Farewell along with Jack Black, The Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons and chat show legend Oprah Winfrey, who warbled the line "you really raised the bar if you were me you'd buy them all a car." Sheryl Crow came out at the end to finish the song.

Jay Leno “Blindsided” by ‘Tonight Show’ Boot

Jay LenoJay Leno says he was "blindsided" when he was asked to leave The Tonight Show.

The 63 -year-old talk show host felt like he had been dumped by a girlfriend during his spat with NBC producers, who announced in 2004 that he would be leaving the show and replaced him with Conan O'Brien four years later.

During an interview with 60 Minutes set to air Sunday, Jay recalled, "I was blindsided ... [NBC executives said] 'You're out...' and I went, 'OK.' You know, you have a girl [who] says, 'I don't want to see you any more.' 'Why?' 'You know, she doesn't want to see you any more, OK?'"

Jay - who was later given his own primetime series The Jay Leno Show, which aired from September 2009 to February 2010 - believes he was unfairly deemed a villain when NBC asked him to resume his role on The Tonight Show to replace Conan, who quit after seven months following poor ratings. "I didn't quite understand that, but I never chose to answer any of those things or make fun of any other people involved, it's not my way," he said.

Jay Leno’s Final Guests Announced

Jay LenoJay Leno will be joined by Billy Crystal for his final show.

The 63-year-old talk show host will step down from The Tonight Show on February 6 after almost 22 years and will mark the occasion by interviewing the actor, who was the first guest when he made his debut on the program in May 1992.

Country music superstar Garth Brooks will perform on the final show, while his successor Jimmy Fallon - who takes over on February 17 - will appear on February 3 for a for a "passing of the baton."

Though Jay's future is uncertain when he leaves the show, network NBC are keen to keep his services. "I'm hoping we will enter into a new relationship with him and keep his home on NBC... I would love him to do specials with us and other shows he could host. We're being very respectable of him and not pushing that agenda too hard," NBC entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt said. However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the presenter is "highly unlikely" to stay with NBC and is currently meeting with other networks.

Barbara Walters Forgives Lindsay Lohan

Barbara WaltersBarbara Walters has forgiven Lindsay Lohan for pulling out of their scheduled interview.

The Liz & Dick actress was due to chat to her friend about her latest movie on November 16, but cancelled and instead agreed to do interviews with Jay Leno on The Tonight Show, Good Morning America and Late Night With Jimmy Fallon leaving Barbara very "disappointed: about being snubbed, but the 20/20 host has now forgiven the 26-year-old star after she apologized on TV.

Speaking to Jay Leno last night, Lindsay said she cancelled her sit down with Barbara because the timing "wasn't right, right now." She explained, "I love her, I'm a big fan of Barbara Walters. So when it's right, she knows she'll be the first person I sit down with."

The troubled actress's new PR team were said to have cancelled the interview because they feared it would focus too much on her personal problems, including her father's attempted intervention last month and her current legal issues amid reports her probation will be revoked this week.

Paul Reiser Trashes NBC to Jay Leno

Paul Reiser was originally scheduled to appear on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno to promote his new NBC series, The Paul Reiser Show. But the network didn’t cancel his appearance after they cancelled his show. The series was nixed after just two episodes, and Reiser didn’t bother to hide his disenchantment with the network… even on one of their own shows.

“They don’t traditionally make bad decisions,” he said of the network, tongue-in-cheek, to the (current) Tonight Show host. Leno has had his own troubles with NBC, but managed to get re-hired after he was fired from his TV show. We're not sure the same will happen to Reiser.

The Daily Show is Number One

Maybe Conan O’Brien shouldn’t get too cozy in his new office at TBS.

The former NBC funnyman will debut his Conan, a new late night series, at 11 pm on Monday … and that means he’s facing the toughest of all late night competition.

According to TVByTheNumbers, The Daily Show is the top-rated late night show among adults age 18 - 49. The numbers are in, and Jon Stewart is officially the king of late night … but during one of the weeks reviewed, The Daily Show, The Tonight Show and Late Show with David Letterman were all showing re-runs.

We have a sneaking suspicion that all Daily Show ratings spikes come just when FOX News hires new staffers.
