Casting Corner: Ugly Betty, Saturday Night Live, In Plain Sight

Eddie CibrianBobby MoynihanCristian de la Fuente

Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:

According to Entertainment Weekly, the whistle may soon be blown on a Ugly Betty hunk.

Back in May, I declared Eddie Cibrian to be ABC’s Hottest Co-Star of the Year. Unfortunately, the hot gym teacher will apparently be taking his chest dimples over to another network. Cibrian, who was only scheduled to appear in four Betty episodes this season, has now lined up a short arc on USA’s .

So what will Coach Tony Diaz’s eventual departure mean for Hilda? Well, if she’s half as devastated as I am—it’ll probably mean lots of nights spent with Ben & Jerry.

Chris NothAfter leaving his mark on two different Law & Order franchises, has decided to leave the Dick Wolf family once again.

Noth, who has been playing Det. Mike Logan on for three years, originated the character when the first series unfolded on NBC back in 1990. (He stuck around that time through 1995.)

When the program returns for its 8th season (it’s still in the middle of its seventh), Jurassic Park‘s Jeff Goldblum will be the new face sharing screen time with Vincent D’Onofrio.

In a statement, USA’s executive vice-president of original programming said, “Jeff is one of the most exciting actors around and is a perfect addition to the Law & Order: Criminal Intent ensemble. We are very excited to see what new moves he will bring to the Major Case Squad.” Well, I hope he brings a lot - especially since he’ll reportedly be getting about $250,00 per episode.

There’s been no word as to how or when Noth will be making his exit.

Weeds. Damages. The Closer. Saving Grace. Army Wives. What do they all have in common? These shows with female leads can all be found on cable.

Now we can add another program to that growing list: .

The USA Network drama, starring Mary McCormack (The West Wing), debuted this past weekend to impressive numbers. The series about a U.S. Marshal working for the Witness Protection Program pulled in 5.3 million viewers during its 10 p.m. time slot. That’s the best turnout any new program has seen on that channel since premiered in 2006.

NBC Drops Monk, Psych

Psych, USA NetworkAs we all know, the recent forced programmers to fill their schedules creatively.  CBS brought Big Brother in early, FOX aired endless repeats of House and NBC borrowed shows from other areas.  Unfortunately for the Peacock network, their experiments have all ended with a thud.

Back in February, NBC pulled quarterlife after only one episode.  Fortunately, that internet series still had its regular fan base to return to.  Now two other programs on the network are going back to where they came from.

Come next week, both Monk and Psych will be dropped from the Sunday lineup.  Reruns of the USA Network shows starting airing on their sister channel back in April.  Unfortunately, both programs have had only churned out horrible demos since their debut.

A two-hour block of The Office will fill in for the time being.

USA Network Cancels ‘The Dead Zone’, ‘4400’

Anthony Michael Hall The Dead ZoneTV Guide is exclusive reporting today that the plugs have been pulled on both and Dead, which had been on the the for six seasons, had its last airing on September 16.  This was also the same date of 4400’s Season Four finale.

Although a reason was not stated, creator Scott Peters acknowledged the cancellation of The 4400 on the show’s message board.  Meanwhile, fans of The Dead Zone have been working on their own online petition.

While I admittedly had not watched either series, I was actually bummed to hear the news.  How could I not support any program that had Farmer Ted (a.k.a. ) as its lead?  And I only just learned today that was (supposedly) set in Seattle.  Just that fact alone should give the program a permanent time slot on USA’s schedule.

Keep Farmer Ted!  Keep 4400!  Go Seahawks!

WWE RAW Reflections (10/22)

Candice Michelle off to the hospital

Another one bites the dust on Monday Night RAW. And once again it is a member of the main event RAW roster who goes down with an injury. Poor Candice Michelle. After raving about her abilities last week in my RAW reflections, the sexy women’s division main eventer went down mid-match with an injury. Even so, she still had one of the best matches on this week’s RAW. In my opinion, the Candice Michelle vs. Beth Phoenix best two out of three falls match for the WWE Women’s Championship was the best match of the night. The crowd seemed to be way into it, it was faced pace and the wrestling was solid - it was one of the best women’s match-ups I’ve seen in a long time. And then it happened. Candice climbed to the top turnbuckle and Phoenix hit the ropes, obviously trying to “crotch” Candice in the corner. Instead, it seemed Candice blew the spot, slipping on the ropes, twisting slightly and landing face and shoulder first into the canvas.

Read more about Candice’s injury, the next SAVE_US.222 teaser and after the jump.

Donald Trump Bets His Famous Comb-Over

Donald Trump Donald Trump has bet his famous hairdo for a wrestling event. He and World Wrestling Entertainment chairman Vince McMahon both bet their hair for the WrestleMania 23 event on April 1st. A recent taping of Raw, to air on February 15th on the USA Network, shows Trump challenging McMahon to a match. The challenge was brought on after McMahon wanted Trump in his “dubious Mr. McMahon Kiss My Ass Club,” as well as the accusation that Trump stole “You’re Fired!” from McMahon. Trump had some fightin’ words for McMahon, which will air on the February 15th show, saying, “I am here to challenge you to a match at WrestleMania. And I am going to kick your ass!” Of course, these guys can’t actually get into a ring (although that might be interesting), so each will have a representative wrestle for them. Trump’s ultimate challenge? “If my guy loses, you can shave my head. But if your guy loses, I’m going to shave your head!”
