Heidi Fleiss and Tom Sizemore

And you thought the tension between Jeff Conaway and his girlfriend was awkward to watch…

For Season 3 of Celebrity Rehab, Dr. Drew Pinsky and producers have upped the dramatic ante. Actor has just been included in the final lineup for the VH1 reality series. This means he will be seeking treatment at the same time as Heidi Fleiss.

Despite an impressive body of work, Sizemore’s personal life has been checkered with a host of legal issues. In addition to numerous troubles with drugs, the Saving Private Ryan star was also convicted in 2003 of assaulting and harassing his then-girlfriend. That woman was Fleiss, the former Hollywood madam. According to TMZ, Tom checked himself into The Pasadena Recovery Center last Friday, one day after being arrested for an outstanding warrant.

The patients participating in VH1’s took a tough dose of reality in two recent episodes, wherein a former patient returned to rehab to smoke crack and create a ruckus on the roof. As the celebs looked on, Seth “Shifty” Binzer scrambled around on top of the treatment center, swallowing Ecstasy, smoking crack and looking completely strung out.

Finally, , with the aid of his staff, was able to get Seth down and into the center. The Crazy Town rocker remained contentious, but eventually quieted down. Shifty’s re-appearance at the PRC (Pasadena Recovery Center) became a stark reminder to current cast members of the show. His crack-smoking and roof-hopping spoke more eloquently than Dr. Drew ever has on the dangers of relapse and the mindset of addicts.

It was also a little disheartening to fans of the show, who rooted for Shifty’s success during his first season stint on the series. The Celebrity Rehab spin-off, Sober Living, began filming with Binzer in the cast. The musician , however, and eventually winded up in a hotel room on a drug binge. Dr. Drew tried to talk him down from the ledge, so to speak, but Seth binged some more before finally arriving on top of the facility. TMZ reported the rocker missing in late July. Andy Dick is reported to be among the show’s cast.

Celebrity Rehab: Sober Living is scheduled to premiere next month.

Dr. Drew Talks Rehab on Today

Dr. Drew Pinsky

Dr. Drew Pinsky, addiction specialist, recently sat down on Today to talk about the problems associated with this disease and the upcoming second season of . The season premieres Thursday, which somehow seems impossibly far away.

Pinsky said doing the show itself is “very stressful,” but not for the reasons you might think. The presence of cameras and the need to create a reality show might have added to the problem of overcoming addiction, but Dr. Drew says the cameras have a “positive effect” on the celebrity patients at the Pasadena Recovery Center. “It’s a hard reality,” Drew explained. “And that’s why we did this show.”

According to Pinsky, one in eight Americans will suffer or does suffer from substance addiction. An estimated sixteen million Americans currently need immediate treatment for this problem. That’s part of what Celebrity Rehab is all about - showing the public just how tough addiction can be, proving that addicts need serious treatment. According to , addiction is a “progressive illness” which needs to be stopped in its tracks.

Sober Living: Possible Celebrity Rehab Spinoff?

Celebrity Rehab

It’s one thing to get clean, it’s another thing to stay clean.

According to the New York Post, VH1 could soon be inviting more controversy to its channel. The network - which just wrapped filming on its second season of - may begin production on a spinoff as soon as next week.

If the rumored project is given the greenlight, we could see several of Dr. Drew Pinsky’s former patients reunited Real World style. In Sober Living, the recovering addicts would live in one home for 30 days while trying to piece their lives and careers back together. (Could this be why Dr. Drew had a ‘Celebrity Addiction’ special recently? Probably.) Those supposedly approached for the new series include Seth “Shifty” Binzer (Season 1), rocker Steven Adler (Season 2) and model Amber Smith (Season 2).

Until then, you can expect the next round of counseling sessions to begin when Celebrity Rehab returns on August 4 sometime this October.

‘Celebrity Rehab’: Just Another Reality Show?

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Cable, Editorial

Celebrity Rehab cast membersThe Internet community, the media and addiction professionals have spoken out against VH1’s . Criticisms call the show “exploitive,” and say it’s really just another TV show with people playing to that fact. Faces and Voices of Recovery, a group for recovering addicts, even began a letter-writing campaign to the cable channel to complain about the show. And normally, honestly, I wouldn’t even care. But I have seen this particular show, and I can tell you in all seriousness it’s not like anything else on TV.

Leading man , whose fatherly face and forty-nine-year-old fit form make him look more like star material than your average addiction expert, obviously doesn’t need to further his own career or find a spotlight. Pinsky has enjoyed the spotlight for two and a half decades, landing every type of gig from radio to movies. A genuine motive to help is what propels him to do the show, and while the same may not be said of all the recovering addicts on the show (but who can really tell?), Celebrity Rehab isn’t just another with a different package.

Five Best Moments from ‘Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew’

Dr. Drew PinskyLast Thursday night, I was fortunate enough to stumble upon my latest reality obsession.  Surprisingly, it lacked a competition element and it, thankfully, didn’t compete with .  (Though it does have a connection to it).  My current must see fave?  .

Given my predilection for Train Wreck television, the series immediately had one thing going for it.  But I like to think my voyeuristic eye is drawn toward things with a bit more substance, and this show filled that role quite nicely.  Rehab combines the grittiness of A&E’s fabulous , the B-list comedy of VH1’s , the hopefulness of NBC’s and the frank, yet informative, talk usually seen from Oprah’s .  The nice whole package was then topped off with the appealing and non-judgmental presence of Dr. Drew Pinsky.
