Aflac has canned Gilbert Gottfried, and now they’re going to need a new voice for their spokesduck. Here’s the exciting part: it could be you.
“There’s a lot of undiscovered talent in the U.S.,” said chief marketing officer Michael Zuna. “We’re considering anyone and everyone. We’re looking for the best voice.”
The company will start accepting submissions on Wednesday. Visit the Duck’s Facebook page or Monster.com to find out how to apply for the gig. But, you’d better hurry -- the submissions deadline is April 1. Live auditions will also be held across the United States.
Aflac is premiering a new commercial on Wednesday that will reveal a new chapter in the life of the currently-voiceless duck. The new voice is scheduled to premiere on April 22.

VIDEO: Did FOX, ABC Ban Cleavage-Filled Commercial?
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, ABC, FOX, American Idol, Commercials, Dancing With The Stars, Gossip, Rumors, Video,
Although the world should be used to seeing women parading around in their bras by now, there’s one thing Lane Bryant commercials have that Victoria’s Secret spots don’t: large breasts.
And when you have large breasts, you get lots of cleavage. And when you have lots of cleavage, you supposedly get banned by ABC and FOX.
According to Lane Bryant, a clothing company for full-figured women, both Victoria’s Secret-friendly networks rejected requests to air the ad. “It certainly appears to be discrimination against full-sized women,” one source told the New York Post. A Lane Bryant rep added. “There’s no difference other than they’re bigger girls.”
Needless to say, these accusations now have ABC and FOX both crying foul.

Nearly Three Dozen Sponsors Boycott Glenn Beck
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Cable, News, Video,
Listen up, Glenn Beck. President Obama may or may not have a “deep-seated hatred for white people,” but advertisers apparently have a deep-seated disliking for you.
Nearly one month after telling the crew at Fox & Friends that Obama was “a racist,” the backlash for the FOX News commentator keeps coming. In total, 33 advertisers - including Wal-Mart Stores Inc., CVS Caremark, Clorox and Sprint - have now asked to be distanced from the show.

Longer Mad Men Episodes Arrive in August
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Cable, News,
Mad Men, the series about a fictional advertising agency, will have its share of commercials next season. This will mean extra work for our DVRs.
To accommodate an increase of ads while maintaining the same amount of drama, episodes will run longer than before. The AMC program will now overlap slightly into the 11:00 hour.
“The two minutes is troubling and I’m fighting it,” creator Matthew Weiner wrote in an online chat. “I am obviously a huge advocate of advertising and I love the ‘madvertising,’ but I am fighting the urge to change the show at this time, especially when the financials are meager and the urge to TiVo will just be further encouraged. If you oppose it, I see no reason not to let them know. I will make the best show I can, no matter what, rest assured.”
Season 3 is set to premiere on Sunday, August 16 @ 10pm. A marathon of Season 2 episodes will precede that debut on Monday, August 10.

Seinfeld-Gates Campaign Nixed
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Commercials, Gossip, Video,
Those somewhat odd and not-so-funny Microsoft ads featuring Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld are being pulled from the air. You might think it’s because they’ve received such a negative reaction (the entertainment media has had a jolly time poking fun at them), but Microsoft says differently.
This company never admits failure or defeat of any kind. “This was the plan all along,” said spokesperson Frank Shaw. “All along we said we were having a teaser campaign,” he explained. “We’re getting ready to start the second phase.” Betcha it doesn’t involve putting founder Bill Gates in the ads, this “second phase.”

Is Gossip Girl’s New Ad Too Much?
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, The CW, Gossip,
This is one of two ads being used to promote Gossip Girl‘s return to the CW. (The show will start airing new episodes starting April 21.)
Don’t freak out. This shot of Serena and Nate is from the drama’s pilot. Another ad will focus on Blair and Chuck.
What do you think? Is this campaign taking things a bit too far? Or is it just tantalizing enough to make people want to watch?

Geico Cavemen Get a New Sitcom
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, ABC,
The ink is barely dry on the contract that Bill Martin and Mike Schiff (Grounded for Life creators) signed with ABC Television Studios, but work is already going full steam ahead on a new sitcom starring Geico’s cavemen. That’s right, the commercial concept has become so popular in mainstream culture it’s comedic value can no longer be ignored by network TV, a group determined to cash in on Geico’s advertising success. The two-year deal signed with ABC gives Martin and Schiff seven-figures and a third season option. The new sitcom will focus on a group of three Neanderthal Men living in today’s Atlanta, trying to adjust to a Cro-Magnon world. Martin and Schiff are no strangers to such a sitcom setup – they served as executive producers and showrunners for NBC’s 3rd Rock From the Sun in the past.

Dixie Chicks’ TV Ad Won’t Air on NBC
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Music, NBC, The CW,
NBC has refused to air a TV commercial for the new Dixie Chicks’ documentary, Shut Up & Sing due to the subject of the film. NBC’s policy is to prohibit ads that show “public controversy.” The film looks at the slide from the top the Dixie Chicks experienced after they criticized President George W. Bush during a London concert in March 2003. If you recall the incident, lead singer Natalie Maines told the audience that they were “ashamed” to come from the same state as Bush. Following that, some radio stations refused to play the bands’ records and boycotted ads for their “Accidents & Accusations” tour.
The documentary opened on Friday in New York and Los Angeles, and local affiliates of the big five broadcasters did run promos for the movie in those cities. The Weinstein Co., who is distributing the film, said of the rejection that they are “exploring taking legal action.” Harvey Weinstein made a statement saying, “It’s a sad commentary about the level of fear in our society that a movie about a group of courageous entertainers who were blacklisted for exercising their right of free speech is now itself being blacklisted by corporate America.”
Following suit, the CW network also refused to air the ads, saying they had “concerns we do not have appropriate programing in which to schedule this spot.”
