VIDEO: Amy Ryan Returns to The Office Tonight

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC, The Office, Video,

While it's still not known exactly how Steve Carell will depart from The Office, I'm guessing his exit might have something to do with the Christmas "Holly" arriving in Scranton.

On tonight's episode, Holly Flax (Oscar nominee ) will make her long-awaited return to Michael Scott's Dunder Mifflin branch. Flax, who's scheduled for eight episodes, will be filling in for Toby once again. (Scott's nemesis will be away on a leave of absence.)

So will Holly finally dump her Nashua boyfriend? Will she forgive Michael for the herpes scare? Tune in!

Casting Corner: Dexter, White Collar and More

Julia Stiles

Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:

In Treatment: It remains to be seen whether Amy Ryan will return to The Office. But until then, she’ll be In Treatment. The Academy Award nominee will be seated as Dr. Paul Weston’s therapist, not his patient.

NBC Returns: George Clooney, Amy Ryan

UPDATE: Entertainment Tonight now says Margulies will be returning with Clooney.

After months and months of speculation, several sources are now claiming that George Clooney will be reporting for ER duty after all. The news comes despite denials last year from the Academy Award winner himself.

It’s not known when Doug Ross will resurface on the show, but the network recently extended the series’ 15th - and final - season by three episodes. (The hospital will now officially close its doors on April 2.) It’s also unclear whether Julianna Margulies will be checking in as well. Although we’ve already seen appearances from Shane West, Anthony Edwards and Alex Kingston (Noah Wyle and Eriq La Salle will arrive later), Margulies said back in November that she had no intentions of returning. “I feel like I left Carol Hathaway in the best scenario possible,” Julianna told the AP.

Clooney, who was last seen in a 2000 episode, will film his scenes later this week.

The Office Welcomes Back Amy Ryan

Amy Ryan in The OfficeI’m happy to report that one of my favorite actresses from 2007 will be returning to one of my favorite television shows next year.

It’s just been announced that will be hanging around Dunder Mifflin for at least another 5 episodes this fall. At the end of The Office‘s last season, Ryan entered the scene as HR rep Holly Flax, the woman who replaced Toby Flenderson. In the finale, Holly and Michael seemed to make an actual connection. Unfortunately, news of Jan’s surprise pregnancy threw things off course.

This is not the first project that Ryan and Steve Carell have worked on together; the two were both in the charming . Dan was just one of three movies that Amy starred in last year that I absolutely loved. The Oscar-nominated actress was also featured in Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead and Gone Baby Gone.

2008 Screen Actors Guild Awards

Screen Actors Guild AwardsThanks to the cancelation of the Golden Globes ceremony, the hottest ticket in town was tonight’s .  Without a picket line to cross, celebrities from TV and Film were allowed to celebrate - and commiserate - together for the first time in a long while.

For star-deprived fans, the SAG red carpet was also a treat for sore eyes.  What were our favorite actresses wearing?  What were the latest trends?  Which dresses were going to be copied by Allen Schwartz tomorrow?

Unfortunately, the evening was not all about partying.  The recent deaths of and Heath Ledger cast a somber tone on what would normally be a festive occasion.  Thankfully, tonight was not about dissecting their lives, but merely about honoring them.

Meanwhile, the neglected winners of this month’s Globes were also hoping to get a share of the honors.  If they were able to pull off another victory tonight, maybe they would have a chance to give the speech they already had written.

Well, without further ado, here’s the play-by-play of tonight’s events coming to you from the fashionably late West Coast!
