Unfortunately for CW, good luck did not come in threes. Despite impressive debuts for Gossip Girl and 90210, the 11th cycle of America’s Next Top Model failed to impress. (In the show’s defense, it was pitted against stiff competition.) ANTM‘s performance gave FOX the chance to take over in the viewers and the demos.
8pm
- America’s Got Talent (10.2 million, 2.7/7 in 18-49) was Wednesday’s most watched show.
- The two-hour premiere of Bones (9.7 million, 3.3/9) had the night’s best demos.
- Greatest American Dog (1.4/4) retrieved 4.9 million.
- Wife Swap* (3.7 million, 1.3/4) did slightly better than last week.
- America’s Next Top Model (3.5 million, 1.7/5) had its lowest premiere numbers to date.

America’s Next Top Model Cycle 11: Top Model Inauguration

For the 11th cycle of America’s Next Top Model, the CW wasted no time in getting viewers drawn into the drama. In addition to the annual selection episode, Week 1 consisted of a bonus elimination hour.
Since the 14 finalists (including a transgendered contestant) were revealed to the media weeks ago, there’s really little need to detail the events of the show’s anti-climatic first half. So let’s just move on to meaty portion of the competition, shall we?

Labor Day Marathons: The Closer (TNT), Beverly Hills, 90210 (SOAPnet), Scrubs (TV Land), Dirty Jobs (Discovery), My Wife and Kids (ABC Family), Star Trek: The Next Generation (Sci Fi), House of Payne (TBS), CSI (Spike TV), Anthony Bourdain (Travel), That ‘70s Show (FX)
- Gossip Girl (CW, 8pm): Season 2 premiere. “Summer in the Hamptons winds down as Serena and Nate carry on a cover-up scheme to make others think they’re dating.” A few choice pics sent to Gossip Girl should do the trick.
- Prison Break (FOX, 8pm): Season 4 premiere. “Michael is in LA looking to even the score with Gretchen for Sara’s death.” I think Gretchen should really apologize for all of last season.
- One Tree Hill (CW, 9pm): Season 6 premiere. “Lucas’ chosen lady meets him at the airport, while Dan’s accident proves life-threatening.” Sorry. So not caring who Chad Michael Murray picks these days.
- Raising the Bar (TNT, 10pm): Series premiere. “Idealistic public defender Jerry Kellerman (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) fights for a man he’s sure is innocent, but holding a court is a judge who loathes Kellerman.” Gosselaar’s new hair has been generating some passionate opinions.

America’s Next Top Model Introduces Transgendered Contestant

Throughout the 10 cycles of America’s Next Top Model, there have a number of girls who weren’t considered typical models. (Who knew tomboy Lauren would look hot with makeup on?) Then there were those with very masculine traits. (Remember when Paulina called Dominique the transvestite version of Robin Wright Penn?)
Now for the show’s eleventh season, the producers will once again be challenging our concept of beauty. For the first time, the series will be introducing its first transgendered contestant. During her interview before the judges’ panel, 22-year-old Isis explained why she chose to transform herself from a man to a woman. “I was born physically male...but mentally, everything else, I was born female.”

Ratings
Last night, Criminal Minds delivered impressive numbers despite being in repeats. Unfortunately, the drama couldn’t help CBS take down FOX. The first half of the SYTYCD finale gave its network wins in the demos and the viewers.
8pm
- Approximately 8.7 million saw the final four give it all on So You Think You Can Dance (3.0/10 in 18-49).
- Greatest American Dog (1.5/5) fetched 5.9 million.
- America’s Got Talent* (5.4 million, 1.3/4) took in 200,000 more.
- Wife Swap* (4.4 million, 1.4/5) was up 400,000.
- America’s Next Top Model* (1.1 million, 0.4/1) picked up another 290,000.

Try as they might, no competitor could take down FOX. Last night, SYTYCD once again helped its network take wins in both categories.

- Big Brother 10 (6.3 million, 2.1/7) took in 400,000 more.
- Wife Swap* (4 million, 1.4/5) did the same as last week.

Viewers didn’t seem particularly interested about last night’s Celebrity Circus finale. They did, though, care about the Top Ten contestants on SYTYCD. The dancing competition once again helped FOX win both the demos and the viewers.
8pm
- So You Think You Can Dance (8.8 million, 3.0/10 in 18-49) stepped it up a notch.
- Big Brother 10 (5.9 million, 1.8/6) did almost 2 million less than The Price is Right.
- The Baby Borrowers* (1.3/5) started off with 4.1 million.
- Wife Swap* (4 million, 1.4/5) was up slightly.
- America’s Next Top Model (1.1 million, 0.5/2) did the same as before.

So You Think You Can Dance,
Ratings
Wednesday night’s ratings landscape showed very little change this week. The three main reality programs (Baby Borrowers, Celebrity Circus and So You Think You Can Dance) were all steady with their previous numbers. This gave FOX another win in both categories.
8pm
- So You Think You Can Dance (8.7 million, 3.1/10 in 18-49) was the night’s most-watched program.
- The Price is Right* (7.8 million, 1.5/5) spun up 400,000 more.
- An old episode of The Baby Borrowers* (4.5 million, 1.6/6) was up slightly.
- Wife Swap* (3.9 million, 1.3/4) did the same as last Wednesday.
- America’s Next Top Model* (1.1 million, 0.5/1) had repeat numbers.
