Tuesday Ratings: Hefty Numbers for Biggest Loser

Despite the return of NCIS and NCIS: LA, NBC - with help from The Biggest Loser: Couples - managed to outweigh CBS in the demos last night. The Eye network nearly doubled its nearest competitor in viewers though.

  • (11.7 million, 4.6/12) had its best premiere demo in history.
  • FOX’s coverage of The Orange Bowl (3.5/9) rallied 10.3 million sports fans.
  • (1.5/4) scraped up 3.9 million.
  • (1.3/3) turned in 3 million.
  • * (0.4/1) coughed up 900,000.

Monday Ratings: Bowl’s a Fiesta for Fox

A two-hour debut of The Bachelor and a two-hour return of Heroes couldn’t compete against college football action. Last night’s broadcast of the Fiesta Bowl gave FOX wins in both the viewers and the demos.

  • Approximately 12.8 million watched Boise State beat TCU in the Fiesta Bowl (4.2/11 in 18-49).
  • (9.5 million, 3.3/8) had its largest premiere since April 2007.
  • * (2.3/6) entertained 7 million.
  • * (2.1/5) turned in 6.7 millon.
  • (4.9 million, 2.2/5) matched an all-time low.
  • * (0.4/1) delivered 1.2 million.

Thursday Ratings: BCS is BEST

College football season ended yesterday with a bang. The BCS game on FOX easily gave the network a double win last night. Meanwhile, Private Practice‘s official Thursday debut did well for ABC. The medical drama even bested that other medical drama on NBC.

  • Approximately 26.8 million watched Florida beat Oklahoma in ‘s BCS game.
  • * (2.0/5 in 18-49) nailed down 8.5 million.
  • (7.5 million, 2.4/6) was down 900,000 from its last new episode.
  • (5.5 million, 2.0/6) was off by 17%; (4.2 million, 1.7/4) lost 22%.
  • (0.9/2) turned in 2.3 million.

Monday Ratings: A Fiesta for FOX

Despite two new ABC premieres, the first Monday of 2009 wasn’t an accurate picture of the weeks to come. In addition to a slate of repeats on CBS, the Fiesta Bowl was on. In fact, it’s that football game that helped give FOX a win in both the viewers and demos yesterday.

  • Seven Deadly Sins (History, 9pm):  “The sin of lust is examined in the opener of a seven-part series exploring the seven capital vices, including their origin in religious teaching and history’s worst perpetrators.” In case you needed some help thinking of a good resolution.
  • Bromance (MTV, 9pm):  Series premiere. “Brody Jenner is introduced to nine guys who will be competing to be part of his entourage.” Finding someone less annoying than shouldn’t be too hard.
  • The City (MTV, 10pm)::  Series premiere. “Whitney Port arrives in New York City and begins working for iconic fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg.” And by “working,” we mean she’ll be giving Diane free publicity.
  • 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs (VH1, 10pm):  “A five-part countdown of the Top 100 hard rock songs begins.” On VH1, Daughtry is considered hard rock.
