NBC Lines Up Another Celeb-Reality Show

NBC trying its hardest to find that special celeb-realityBecause we can apparently never have enough celebrity reality shows, NBC is currently developing yet another one.

Realizing that perhaps the very out there circus atmosphere was not their forté, producers have opted to focus on resorting to what they do best: partying!

Well, okay, maybe not the Paris Hilton kind of party, but the more formal kind. A typical episode for Celebrity Come Dine With Me will feature one celebrity who hosts a dinner party for his or her famous friends. At the end of the night, the party will be judged on presentation, food, and entertainment value.

Sounds kind of lame to you, too, right? I mean, I love watching celebrities, but watching them eat and be entertained doesn’t interest me all too much. I say that knowing that the show has found “success” in 16 other countries.

O.J. Simpson to Appear in Jail

OJ SimpsonNo, not that jail. Well, sort of.

, who needs no introduction, smiled at Las Vegas officers when he was led into jail recently for a short stay. (Simpson was later released on bail). He talked about finding his golf swing and seemed disappointed he would now have to cancel a poker game scheduled at his residence, even joking with jailers as he took it all in stride. How do I know this? Because I’ve heard some of the teasers for Jail, a show on MyNetworkTV.

The reality show was being taped when Simpson was escorted into the Clark County Detention Center on January 11, and they hit the cable TV jackpot when the former footballer was brought in. One exec called Simpson’s stay “strange” and not what they “expected” at all.

The episode will air Tuesday, February 12 at 9pm.

Are the New Kids Back on the Block?

New Kids on the Block - thenIf you had any proximity to any tween or teen girls in the 1980s and 1990s, you couldn’t escape the boy band that swept the nation into a craze:  . The baggy clothes. The dance moves. The poppy beats. The looks. Girls loved them, guys hummed along when no one was around to listen, and then…they disappeared. So stop holding your breath already - the New Kids (now all grown adults) might be making a comeback. I know, I didn’t believe it either. But it’s true…or, it could be.

The official Web site for the group is up and running again, touting an “announcement” and asking fans to wait for news. According to People magazine, the New Kids (Jonathan and Jordan Knight, Danny Wood, Joey McIntyre and ’s older brother Donnie) are reuniting. However, there’s nothing to indicate if or when they will be making new music or going out on tour. During their successful run as pop stars, the New Kids sold more than 70 million albums (that’s a lot). They even topped superstars like Madonna and Michael Jackson in 1990 as the highest-paid entertainers (Forbes).

When their popularity steadily declining as the 90s took shape, the New Kids (now shortening the group name to NKOTB) attempted a “comeback” of sorts in ‘94. But Face the Music (the album) didn’t sell all that well, concert tour dates were canceled, and the story ended.  That is, until the Web site came back up with vague promises and clips of the group way back then..

Britney Spears Did WHAT?

Britney SpearsThis is one Britney Spears rumor even I can’t make heads or tails of. According to US Magazine, Spears is scouting around Beverly Hills for kids who aren’t her own. The report says Britney arrived at a Beverly Hills elementary school wearing revealing clothing and talked about picking up someone else’s children. One source says the pop star even seemed confused.

Arriving just before school let out in the afternoon, Spears said “I’m here to pick up my kids.” But then, “They aren’t my kids; I have a new attorney, and I came to pick them up for her.” During her visit to the school, Spears chain-smoked and “rambled,” in the words of one eyewitness. What about the children she was supposed to pick up? They never showed up. Eventually, Spears simply drove away all by herself.

So, okay, what’s going on here? Did some strange mother actually send Britney Spears to pick up her children, or was Brit just thoroughly confused? As more and more of this strange behavior manifests, I must confess to a growing concern. I may not know her, but I admit I’m starting to get a little worried about Britney Spears. Is all this just for …or is something really wrong with Brit?

Britney Spears: Playing with Paparazzi?

Britney Spears and Adnan share a kissMaybe you’ve noticed that every story starts out with a question - but believe me, it’s not by design. Everything she does these days seems a little…well, questionable.

The pop star is continuing her decline into weirdness, still speaking in an English-like lilt and having fun at the expense of the paparazzi. A video of Brit has surfaced on the ‘Net, showing the star speaking with filmers from inside her car. In it, she claims not to know . (He’s the chap who was in the pregnancy test-shopping video, the one who was by her side when she put on her at an LA boutique, the one who’s name has been in the press almost permanently since he’s been with Brit.)

“I don’t know who that is,” Spears answered when a photographer asked her about Adnan. On his Web site, however, Adnan says he hopes to in touch with Brit when he gets back to town in the next few days. Is Spears just pulling the leg of the paparazzi who hound her…or is her mental and emotional state much more precarious than even the media realized?

Britney Spears: Icon for Female Fashion?

Britney SpearsIt’s been announced that will host a fashion event in Beverly Hills next month: the Scandinavian Style Mansion party. The founder of the event said Spears is “a style icon for women” and they’re quite pleased she’ll be involved. (Listen, when women start taking fashion clues from Britney Spears we’ll all be wearing black bustiers - and no one wants that on a runway.)

In other Britney news, The Associated Press is preparing for the eventual death of Spears. Not that they want her to meet her demise anytime soon, but they do want to be prepared if/when she does kick off.  The news media sometimes prepares celeb obits in advance, though generally not for stars who are still so young.

Britney Spears: Addicted to Attention?

Britney Spears queen is at it again. Though the pregnancy rumors have recently been denounced, there’s still plenty of Britney news to go around. In fact, maybe too much.

According to a report, the star walked into a dressing room at a chic boutique and walked back out sans clothing. Maybe she just missed a step somewhere in-between? After this peep show, Britney and her current boyfriend Adnan went into the room together for the better part of an hour - or so the story goes.

Frankly, I find all this Britney news rather troubling. She’s missing court dates, being rushed to hospitals, making scenes at stores. Could it be that Britney, who became a megastar at a very tender age, is addicted to media attention? Before she was being called things like “train wreck,” she was a hot young star - and she got lots of positive media feedback. But now, even negativity doesn’t seem to deter Spears. Could it be that she’s willing to take whatever headlines she can get…however she has to get them?

I don’t pretend to understand her psyche or her actions, but I do know one thing: this chick needs to stay out of the papers for a while.

Oprah WinfreyBig news today. You can hardly get on a Web site without seeing the banner headlines - , megastar and money-maker galore, is getting a TV network. And yet, the is already hers, no? And isn’t she somehow involved with the , too?

At any rate, the will be taken over by the star and become .  (Naturally, because the woman is well on her way to OWNing the world.)  As it is, Winfrey didn’t even pay for the Discovery channel network.  She instead turned over her Web site to the Discovery family and became chairman of the network. Not a bad deal.

Re-runs of her talk show will definitely be on the network, which will be all about Oprah all the time. Can’t wait.

The young star bared it all (figuratively speaking) to Seventeen magazine, saying the pics were taken for someone she was dating at one time. She called the experience “traumatic,” thanked her fans for their continued support, and expressed desire that others might learn from her mistakes. Hudgens also glowingly reported on boyfriend and co-star Zac Efron, though gossip suggests the pair have a somewhat on-again, off-again affair.
