ABC Digs Up The Mole

When ABC’s The Mole first hit TVs in 2001, Survivor was ruling the network roost for reality TV. The Mole‘s highly complicated and manipulative game won viewers over until 2004, after the series had started featuring celebrities. It’s been gone for about four years - that’s a whole lot of viewing seasons. So why is ABC bringing The Mole back now?
Hosted by Anderson Cooper in the beginning seasons, The Mole showed off beautiful locales and intense challenges. The premise of the show is that a single contestant - placed there by the producers - is there to sabotage all the others. But only that one person, you see, really knows who the saboteur is. Everyone tries to guess the identity of The Mole, while some masquerade as The Mole to throw the others off. Even the viewers have no idea who The Mole is, which turns all of us into sideline detectives.

The Amazing Race: Season 12: “Honestly, They Have Witch Powers or Something!”

After the mandatory rest period in Florence, Italy, the five remaining teams began their eighth leg of the race. They were now set to fly 4000 miles away to Mumbai, India. Nicolas and Donald – the first team to reach the last pit stop – started their trek at 10:12 PM. Before heading to the airport, they researched flights through the internet. After securing Air France seats with a 10:30 PM arrival time, they went to find a few hours of shut-eye. Ronald and Christina were the only other duo smart enough to call ahead for tickets.

After their brief break in Dubrovnik, the five remaining teams made very early departures toward their next destination: Italy. To reach the town of Ancona, the groups first had to travel by bus to Split, Croatia. From there, the racers would jump aboard a ferry and travel across the Adriatic to Ancona, Italy.
Although Ronald and Christina were the first group to hit the road at 2:19 AM, the first bus wasn’t scheduled to leave until 5 AM. This allowed Kynt/Vxyin and Nathan/Jennifer to catch up with them. Eventually, Nicolas and Donald – who started off 5 hours later than the first team – even managed to get on the same page. All the groups ended up being on the same ferry heading out of the country.

Survivor China Finale: “A Slippery Little Sucker”

With Peih-gee out, we were now left with four members of the original Fei Long tribe: Courtney, Denise, Todd and Amanda. While it could be argued that three of them fought hard to remain in the game, Courtney admittedly “slipped through the cracks to get to the top.”
On Day 37, the starving survivors got their next piece of tree mail; it alluded to a food prize at the end of their next Reward Challenge. Since energy was now more important than ever, they were all desperate to snag this important win.
For a feast consisting of pizza, brownies, beer and soda, the competitors had to work with a miniaturized Great Wall of China. Starting on top of the wall, the challengers had to first race down a ladder and run across a bridge. At a second bridge, they had to place planks down an unfinished walkway before going over it. Once they had reached the end of the course, they then had to load puzzle blocks into a traditional Chinese yoke and bring them back to the start. After retrieving all their blocks, the opponents then had to figure out how the puzzle pieces fit into their section of the wall.

With Erik now voted out of the game, Peih-gee was feeling like the most unpopular person at the Hae Da Fung camp. Being the last Zhan Hu tribal member left really bothered her; she didn’t like being the outsider. Meanwhile, Denise struggled with the decision she made at the last Tribal Council. She knew voting Erik off could have cost her a place in the Top Three. That move may have been the biggest mistake she had made in the whole competition.
At the next Reward Challenge, the survivors went old school with their game of darts. Using a replica of an ancient Chinese repeating crossbow, the competitors had to hit a wall made up of their names. Each time an arrow hit their name, they would earn a point. The twist? Each player had to secretly distribute the five bows they were given to the other players.

The Amazing Race: Season 12: “Cherry on Top of the Sundae That’s Already Melted”

After their mandatory rest period in Vilnius, Lithuania, the six remaining teams worked on getting to their next destination: Dubrovnik, Croatia. The first two couples, TK/Rachel and Kynt/Vyxin, made it to the airport within minutes of each other. Since it was still very early in the morning, the teams collaborated on their internet research. Although Kynt discovered that Czech Airlines had the first flight out, he chose to continue searching. Meanwhile, TK and Rachel opted to wait in front of the closed Czech Airlines office.
Instead of heading directly to the Vilnius Airport, Christina and Ronald chose to use a hotel phone to make flight reservations. Through LOT Polish Airlines, they secured seats leaving to Warsaw, Poland at 6:25 AM and arriving in Dubrovnik at 11:20 AM. When the father/daugher duo finally arrived at the airport, they decided to line up with the hippies and the other arriving teams outside Czech Airlines anyway. They wanted to make sure they had found the best arrangement. Instead of waiting with the other five couples, the Goths chose to find a travel agency that offered tickets to several different airlines. This bold move set off a wave of paranoia and another week of ticket purchasing confusion.
Survivor: China: “Going for the Oscar”

After returning from one of the most shocking Tribal Councils yet, the six remaining survivors were in a celebratory mood; they had just successfully blindsided James, the holder of the two hidden immunity idols. Todd was relieved that his biggest threat was now out of the picture. Meanwhile, Peih-gee was ecstatic to see that the former Fei Long members had started to turn on each other.
Before beginning their next Reward Challenge, the contestants got a nice surprise: visitors from home. The family members/friends were there to give their smelly loved ones reluctant hugs….and to help them with their competition. One by one, the weepy survivors welcomed their guests: Erik’s mother, Peih-gee’s father, Todd’s sister, Denise’s husband, Amanda’s sister and Courtney’s father. (Am I the only one who found it strange that Denise was the only one with a significant other?)

The Amazing Race: Season 12: “We’ve Really Burned Bridges, for Sure”

Last week’s winners, Azaria and Hendekea, were the first to depart at 6:45 AM the next morning. Nathan and Jennifer – the couple that narrowly came in second - started their way to the airport one minute later. After a lengthy stay in Burkina Faso, the racers were finally set to visit a new destination: Lithuania. Unfortunately, getting tickets to the country 3000 miles away proved to be confusing for the competitors – and bloggers (like me) at home trying to get it all straight.
Discovering that the airport offices were not yet open, the teams had to resort to internet research for the next few hours; they were only allowed to purchase tickets from official airline ticketing offices for this leg of the race. Aside from Nicolas/Donald, most of the racers ended up converging at the same small internet stop. (The grandfather/grandson duo found a different internet café to work out of.) After learning they would all end up on the same 10:45 PM flight into Paris, Ronald chose to leave the other teams behind while he and Christina searched for an open Air France location. The impatient father hated standing around by computers; he wanted to deal with a live person. Although they had some difficulties working with their French-speaking agent, Ronald/Christina eventually secured tickets from Paris to Prague to Vilnius (Lithuania). Their expected arrival time was 2:10 PM.

Survivor: China: “Ready to Bite the Apple”

After Frosti’s elimination at the last Tribal Council, Jeff made a surprise announcement to the seven remaining survivors: they still had other business to attend to. Before heading back to camp, they had to participate in a reward challenge right then and there. The prize for this event would be one like no other. The winner (and two friends) would travel by private jet to the Shaolin Temple. The monastery – around since the 5th century – is most famous for being the home of kung-fu. It’s a place where very few outsiders have been invited to stay, and for some reason, 3 stinky contestants from America would get a chance now.
For the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, the players had to answer a series of questions based on Chinese culture. The first one to reach 5 points would get the prize. After a very close battle between James, Peih-gee and Todd, Peih-gee came out victorious; this was now her 2nd challenge win a row. She opted to take her Zhan Hu buddy (Erik) and the possible swing vote (Denise) with her.

The Amazing Race: Season 12: “Let’s Name Our Chicken Phil”
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, CBS, Amazing Race, The
Instead of venturing to a new destination, the remaining eight teams stayed in Burkina Faso for their latest round of adventures. In other words – the episode was surprisingly airport-free.
Having reached the last pit stop in first place, Azaria and Hendekea had the honor of kicking off the next leg of The Amazing Race. Their first mission was to follow a marked path to a nearby village. There, the teams would find a tribal chief waiting with a clue….and a live chicken. The birds – a customary gift of generosity – was something the teams had to take with them during their travels. (They would not be allowed to ‘check-in’ without their ‘chicken’.) Shana and Jennifer opted to name their new pet ‘Phil’; something about its spiky hairdo reminded them of the ‘cute’ host.
