Drew Carey to Pay $1M for New Twitter Account

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Gossip, Internet

Drew CareyOnly in Burbank. host Drew Carey took to Twitter after a Seattle Sounders win on October 3 (I know, I know, who? Evidently, they’re a soccer team…and evidently, Carey’s part owner) to share his joy, whereupon he discovered that the Twitter name @Drew was being auctioned off.

It was being auctioned off by Drew Olanoff, a blogger who has battled cancer. He got the idea to auction off his username, with proceeds to be sent to the LiveStrong Foundation. “I thought it was so much fun that I bid $25,000,” Carey explained to CNN. “I was in such a good mood that I raised it to $100,000.”

Hear that, soccer fans? If you want something from Drew Carey, catch him about ten minutes after the Sounders win.

Battlestar Galactica

Looking for a special way to celebrate ‘s series finale? Why not consider taking a piece of the Sci Fi series home? Starting Friday, January 16th, NBC Universal will begin the process of auctioning off items from the show’s four seasons. Randomly Commenting About: Miley Cyrus’ Cancer Event Performance

Even though I really like the single (and loved the cause for which it was written), there was one musician who really stuck out during Friday night’s event: Miley Cyrus.

The song - which is available for purchase on iTunes - was performed live this weekend from New York’s Radio City Music Hall. And while “Just Stand Up” earned a nice reception, I couldn’t help but notice how Miley Cyrus’ immature voice stuck out like a grating sore thumb. Did she really deserve to be up on the same stage as Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, and Carrie Underwood? Ehh, I think not.

Idol Gives Back: Just as Good the Second Time Around?

Idol Gives Back Top 8 Group Number

Last year, ’s charity spectacular was still shiny and brand-new. Everything was a surprise, everything was unexpected. Two theaters were packed with partygoers, celebs, singers and cameras. The contestants were given a week without eliminations, and the viewers were given more A-list performers than they could quickly name. In a two and one half-hour broadcast that still ran long, Idol did it again this year. Was giving back as successful this second time around?

American Idol’s charity special still earned the highest ratings of Wednesday night, but the numbers were down from last year. In fact, the numbers were the lowest for Idol since a 2005 pre-taped broadcast. The stars were bigger, the performances more astounding and the promos even more exhausting. So, where did it all go wrong?

How Charitable: American Idol

Ryan Seacrest With three nights of quickly approaching, the show is prepared to dominate the week’s ratings once more. But don’t worry - it’s all in the name of charity. And it seems that everyone involved with the show is getting into the spirit of things.

Host , who reportedly earns $14 million a year (Forbes), has decided to forgo his usual paycheck for Sunday night’s Idol Gives Back special (which airs Wednesday). See Seacrest work for free tomorrow night, when Idol will take over no less than two and one half hours of programming. Yowzah.

This Week on TV (4/7-4/13)

The Office

(You can view TV Envy’s Post-Strike Television Schedule here.)

MONDAY (4/7)

  • Today (NBC, 10am):  Kathie Lee Gifford returns to morning TV this week.  And I thought the New Kids were getting old.
  • Samantha Who? (ABC, 9:30pm):  New episode.  “Samantha has to move back into the apartment when she learns that she could be evicted for subletting it to Todd.”  The girlfriend you hate gets amnesia and you get to keep her apartment.  Todd has seriously been getting off easy so far.
  • The Bachelor (ABC, 10pm):  “It’s an afternoon of tennis and tea for six of the ladies.”  I’ve seen what an afternoon of women’s tennis can look like on The Real Housewives of NYC.  This won’t end pretty.
  • Medium (NBC, 10pm):  “Rosanna Arquette stars as an older seductress linked to the brutal murders of two younger men.”  Maybe it’s best her relationship with Paul McCartney fizzled out.

Just a few weeks ago, CBS finally put an end to one of their struggling sophomore shows, .  Now supporters of Moonlight are hoping that their cult favorite will not see that same fate.

Idol Gives Back Celebrity Guests Announced

Idol Gives Back will continue it’s self-serving humanitarian efforts with another star-studded event this year. I gotta tell you, I watched every minute of the charitable broadcast last year and the only thing I was impressed with was Jack Black. During the Thursday elimination show, Ryan Seacrest started to rattle off the big names which will be associated with the big event this year.

As the crowd screamed and Seacrest cheekily grinned, he spit out attention-grabbing names like Brad Pitt, , Reese Witherspoon, Mariah Carey, Carrie Underwood and Chris Daughtry. He slipped Snoop Dogg in there, too, and that’s when I started screaming. Love the Dogg. Love him. Now, I have a reason to watch the event. Thanks, Snoop.

Believe me, the list of names will only get longer and longer as the Idol Gives Back date of April 9 draws near. They’ll over-promote it the point that we’ll all get sick, and then they’ll do the show and suck a good two hours of TV time out of it. It sounds tedious, I know…but don’t forget, Snoop will be there. He brings a certain cool cachet Idol couldn’t hope to achieve otherwise. Way to luck out, .
