Swift, Wentz, Cuomo, and Barker Appear in New Band Hero Ad

Taylor Swift, Pete Wentz, Rivers Cuomo, and Travis Barker appear in new Band Hero commercial

Continuing with its string of Risky Business-inspired commercials, Activision’s latest TV spot stars Taylor Swift, Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz, Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo, and Blink-182’s Travis Barker. With a quartet like that, how could any marketing exec not feel accomplished at what she does?

Shot last week in Los Angeles by director Brett Ratner, the four musicians rock out to Taylor’s song, “Love Story” (seen after the jump). It’s cute how the guys are slightly dwarfed by Taylor’s model-esque height. The game is out in stores now.

VIDEO: More Dead People Appear in DirecTV Ads

After hiring Chris Farley after death, the people over at Landline TV (more internet video funny guys—as if we didn’t have enough) predicted who DirecTV may hire for their next commercials:
“After testing the boundaries with their Chris Farley spot, DirecTV wrangles more famous people from beyond the grave to be in commercials. “

In the video, the level of offensiveness heightens with each ad, as Heath Ledger, President John F. Kennedy, and Jesus are all mouthpieces for the satellite TV company.

Britney Spears and Russell Brand in New VMA Plug

At this time last year, Britney Spears was still trying to learn Russell Brand’s name. This time around, she can’t stop repeating it.

In this commercial for next month’s VMAs, the pop princess not-so-secretly wonders if she’ll score a personal invite from the two-time host. “Should I have played it up more when he was flirting with me last year? I have to admit there is something sexy about his dangerous ways,” she asks.

Meanwhile, the comedian worries he may have offended her during their last series of spots. “Some of those things I said could have been construed as offensive. I hope she don’t think ill of me.”

The 2009 Video Music Awards air live on September 13.

Longer Mad Men Episodes Arrive in August

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Cable, News

Mad Men

, the series about a fictional advertising agency, will have its share of commercials next season. This will mean extra work for our DVRs.

To accommodate an increase of ads while maintaining the same amount of drama, episodes will run longer than before. The AMC program will now overlap slightly into the 11:00 hour.

“The two minutes is troubling and I’m fighting it,” creator Matthew Weiner wrote in an online chat. “I am obviously a huge advocate of advertising and I love the ‘madvertising,’ but I am fighting the urge to change the show at this time, especially when the financials are meager and the urge to TiVo will just be further encouraged. If you oppose it, I see no reason not to let them know. I will make the best show I can, no matter what, rest assured.”

Season 3 is set to premiere on Sunday, August 16 @ 10pm. A marathon of Season 2 episodes will precede that debut on Monday, August 10.

The Super Bowl Commercial NBC Won’t Let You See

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Sports, NBC, Commercials, Video

WARNING: The racy content may be considered offensive to some…

Had this commercial featured Victoria’s Secret-esque models holding bottles of beer, I suspect NBC wouldn’t have had a problem with it. But the “bottles” are actually stalks of broccoli and the organization involved is , not Budweiser. So what does that mean? The execs have surprisingly decided to raise the “standards” flag. (You can question the network’s taste in quality programming all you like.)

After watching “Veggie Love,” tell us what you think. Was smart in plugging the Super Bowl ad’s plug…or have we already seen worse?

DirecTV Out of Line With Newest Ad?

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Commercials, Gossip, Video

DirecTV logoWe giggled when Christopher Lloyd talked about the future of DirecTV for a commercial spot. We laughed when Kathy Bates and William Shatner joined the fray. We ogled Baywatch-era Pam Anderson tout the service for her spot. We fell over in hysterics when we saw the Scooby Doo advertisement. But now, DirecTV may have twisted the funny bone of some viewers a little too hard. Their latest ad, just another in a long string of past pop culture references, has inspired some pretty heated controversy.

The ads were drawing attention even before the campaign hit the fan. Using the same actors and scenes but different lines, the service has promoted itself as an alternative to cable by putting us once again back in our favorite movie moments - as if to prove that the second time around really can be better than the first with DirecTV. They’re funny, they’re clever and they’re working. Er…they were.
