Thursday Ratings: SYTYCD Finale Finishes on Top

Last night, the Season 4 closer of SYTYCD put FOX on top with the viewers and the demos.

8pm

• Approximately 9.9 million saw Joshua Allen win So You Think You Can Dance (3.4/11 in 18-49).
• Big Brother 10 (6.2 million, 2.1/7) took a 300,000 hit.
• Last Comic Standing (2.0/7) ended its season with 5.8 million.
• Ugly Betty* (4.3 million, 1.2/4) rose by 500,000.
• Smallville* (1.9 million, 0.7/2) was up 200,000.

Laurence Fishburne In Talks to Join CSI

UPDATE: Fishburne has been confirmed for the new season.

As previously announced, CBS’ top-rated show will be facing another major departure next season. Now it’s up to the network to find someone capable of maintaining the show’s ratings record.

Cue Laurence Fishburne. The Matrix star is reportedly close to becoming the latest cast member of CSI. The actor, who would help to fill the void William Petersen eventually creates, is set to play an doctor/scientist with an interesting genetic background. Although he has the makeup of a serial killer, he has yet to act on any of his impulses. (I wonder if that’s something he mentions in his resume.)

John Malkovich and Kurt Russell were other names previously mentioned as possibles.

CSI‘s 9th season begins October 9.

Thursday Ratings: Flashpoint Shows Improvement

This week, Flashpoint had some growth in its new Thursday time slot. The improvement helped CBS win the night with the viewers. Meanwhile, FOX was all over the demos.

• Big Brother 10 (6.5 million, 2.3/8 in 18-49) did 400,000 better than last week’s Greatest American Dog.
• Don’t Forget the Lyrics (1.7/6) had 5.9 million singing along.
• Last Comic Standing (5 million, 1.9/6) pulled in 700,000 more.
• Ugly Betty* (3.8 million, 1.1/4) was up 400,000.
• Smallville* (1.7 million, 0.7/2 lost 200,000.

Thursday Ratings: FOX Sweeps the Dance Floor

Last night, we got a bit of the expected mixed with the unexpected. Not surprising? FOX walked away with two more wins in both categories. Surprising? Viewers saw Will Wingfield eliminated from So You Think You Can Dance.

• Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (1.7/6 in 18-49) quizzed 7.3 million.
• Greatest American Dog (1.5/6) saw 6.1 million roll over.
• Last Comic Standing (1.7/6) rounded up 4.3 million.
• Ugly Betty* (0.8/3) turned in 3.4 million.
• Smallville* (0.8/3) attracted 1.9 million.

William Petersen Plans Exit from CSI

The bleeding just won’t stop at CSI.

In the past year, CBS has seen two actors (Gary Dourdan and Jorja Fox) leave its highest-rated show. Now the network will have to work around another major departure.

Although William Petersen signed a new contract earlier this year, it turns out that deal actually came with an exit plan. Entertainment Weekly reports Gil Grissom will only be with the team for part of the program’s 9th season. Petersen, though, won’t be going very far.

According to executive producer Carol Mendelsohn, “Billy is leaving. But he will remain throughout the run of the series an executive producer. And he will, whenever CBS asks, come back. I don’t think you’ve seen the last of Gil Grissom.”

As for how Grissom will leave is, of course, a secret. We do know though that Jorja Fox - who will briefly return to the series - will somehow play a part.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation returns on October 9.

• Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? (7 million, 2.0/7) tested 1.3 million more this week.
• A repeat of Last Comic Standing* (1.2/4) chalked up 3.5 million.
• Ugly Betty* (3 million, 0.9/3) was up slightly.
• Smallville* (1.8 million, 0.7/3) tacked on another 100,000.

• Million Dollar Password* (5.6 million, 1.3/6) dropped by 1.2 million.
• Last Comic Standing (4.9 million, 1.8/7) laughed off 400,000.
• Ugly Betty* (2.9 million. 0.7/3) had a 600,000 slide.
• Smallville* (1.7 million, 0.6/2) actually improved by 100,000.

• How I Met Your Mother* (1.3/5) dialed up 4.2 million; Rules of Engagement* (4.4 million, 1.4/5) did slightly better.
• The Office* (1.2/5) settled in with 3.5 million.
• Ugly Betty* (0.8/3) chalked up 3.1 million.
• Smallville* (2.2 million, 0.8/3) was up 300,000.

• Jimmy Kimmel (2.9/10) kicked off the basketball coverage with 7.8 million; the NBA pre-game special (8.2 million, 3.2/11) grew from there.
• Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (1.8/6) tested 6.1 million.
• My Name is Earl* (1.1/4) had 3.5 million entertained.
• Smallville* (1.9 million, 0.8/3) did slightly better than before.
