Dancing with the Stars’ Michael Jackson Tribute

What was once attempted by So You Think You Can Dance will now be done on Dancing with the Stars.

On next week’s results show, the ABC program will honor Michael Jackson with three different numbers. The dances - which will be performed by the professionals - were choreographed by a team of people including Cheryl Burke (the pro featured above in Season 2 dance), Derek Hough, Tony Dovolani, Mark Ballas and Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

VIDEO: The Office Copies YouTube Wedding Dance

Even if you didn’t last night, chances are you’ve seen the internet sensation that inspired the video above.

Shortly before Jim and Pam said “I Do” (for the second time), the guests at their wedding danced down the aisle to Chris Brown’s “Forever.” (We later learned that Jim purposely planned a Plan B for their nuptials the minute he saw that YouTube clip.)

If you’ve been hiding under a rock somewhere, you can watch the original version after the jump.

VIDEO: SYTYCD Rocks The White Stripes

In case you didn’t see last night’s results show, you missed what I thought was one of the best group numbers in quite some time.

Even after repeated viewings, this routine to The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” (choreographed by Tabitha and Napoleon D’Umo) still has me pumped.

Jackson-Themed So You Think You Can Dance Planned

Michael Jackson in Thriller video

Next week, FOX will pay tribute to the King of Pop’s musical library. Now the network is planning to honor his contributions to dance.

Hours after Michael Jackson’s death, plans for a special So You Think You Can Dance were in the works. Based on a series of tweets started by Nigel Lythgoe, we may soon see an MJ-themed broadcast with numbers from Wade Robson (a former Jackson back-up dancer), Mia MIchaels…and former Janet Jackson-choreographer .

NBC Lays Out New January Schedule

Kyle Chandler in Friday Night Lights

Come this January, NBC will be setting aside some dead weight to make room for a few new entries. The network will also also welcome the return of a critical fave.

  • As mentioned earlier, My Own Worst Enemy and Lipstick Jungle have both been cut from the schedule. Crusoe, which was recently moved to Saturdays, is also MIA.
  • Life, Chuck and Heroes will all get a few weeks off. (The trio will be back in time for February sweeps.)
  • Although it was recently banished to DirecTV, will live to see another NBC Friday. The drama will return on Jan. 16.
  • Hoping to jump in late on the dance show craze, the network will introduce a new reality series from the producers of American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance. Superstars of Dance, a show which is being described as the “Olympic Games of dance,” will begin airing on Mondays starting January 5th.
  • Deal or No Deal will take a hiatus while another Howie Mandel-related series gets its start. Howie Do It - a hidden-camera reality program - will premiere on Friday January 9th.
  • Momma’s Boys, another Ryan Seacrest produced show (can we say Keeping Up with the Kardashians?), will get a home on Mondays right after Superstars.

The 2007 MTV Video Music Awards

MTV Moon MenBefore this evening’s festivities begin, the producers of the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards should really thank the scandal-plagued artists who’ve unintentionally thrown publicity their way.  Tonight, we’ll be thinking about those performers who’ve canceled because they need to be in rehab (Amy Winehouse) and closely watching those who should probably go back ().

We’d been warning you for weeks that this would be a one-time only telecast, but in case you forgot—we hope this helps.  And for those who live on the West Coast (like me), you can play along and read our coverage as if it were in real-time:

Drew Lachey Nabs Hosting Job

Drew LacheyFollowing in fellow Dancing with the Stars contestant (and former boyband member, come to think of it), Joey Fatone, Nick landed himself a purty little TV hosting gig as well. And not just any hosting job—a little spin-off from Dancing with the Stars, called Dance War. Hey, if the stars version of a dancing competition worked, why not one with non-celebs, brought to you by the people that made Dancing with the Stars (DwtS)? The show will appear midseason and fill the dance void left between cycles of DwtS, so your dance card will never be empty, so to speak. Lachey—who won the second season of Dancing—hosts, while judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli are on hand to get dance teams together and primed not just for a dance-off, but also a sing-off (if that’s a word?). You can expect this little dancing gem to come sometime in early 2008. Stay tuned…

‘Dancing With The Stars’ Lineup Announced

Dancing With the StarsThe official lineup for ‘s was announced this morning on .  And despite the ‘leaked’ list you might have heard about this week, here is the correct list as presented by Apolo Ohno, and host Tom Bergeron:

  • Melanie Brown (a.k.a. ‘Scary Spice’) - Baby momma of Eddie Murphy’s latest child.
  • Sabrina Bryan - ‘Cheetah’ girl (I don’t want to know what that means).
  • Jennie Garth - 90210 alum #12 (if you include Ian Ziering from last season)
  • Josie Maran - The supermodel of the female contestants.  I’m already voting against her.
  • Marie Osmond - She’s a little bit country.
  • Jane Seymour - Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman
  • Helio Castroneves - He’s going to drive his partner all over the dance floor.
  • Mark Cuban - If he doesn’t win, he’ll probably just buy the network.
  • Cameron Mathison - A soap star from All My Children.  As if ABC needed more publicity.
  • Wayne Newton - Mr. Las Vegas will have to learn how to share a stage.
  • Floyd Mayweather, Jr. - Apparently the producers felt all boxers could dance.
  • Albert Reed - I hear he’s a model as well.  I approve of this one.

‘So You Think You Can Dance’ Auditions Set to Begin

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Prime Time, Reality, FOX

So You Think You Can Dance logoPut on your dancing shoes, it’s time to show the folks at So You Think You Can Dance that you can—well, you know—dance. Fox is beginning to hold auditions for the third season of the dance talent competition. Look for auditions in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Atlanta. New York dancers can show their stuff March 1-3 at the Manhattan Center Theater. Chicago folks can make their way to The Legendary Chicago Theatre on March 8-10. Los Angeles hopefuls can try out at the Orpheum Theatre on March 22 -24. The auditions wrap up on April 5-7 at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. The dancers who make the cut attend a call-back week, where the top 20 contestants will be announced. So, not only do you need to be a talented dancer, but you also need to be between 18 and 30 years old. Guess my aspirations have been crushed because I’m too dang old. Oh yeah, and I can’t dance either. Sigh.
