Last Friday, number crunchers had their eyes on two events: the debut of The Ex List and the departure of Friday Night Smackdown. Unfortunately for CBS and CW, the news wasn’t good. Despite CBS’ win in both the demos and viewers, Moonlight started and ended better than Ex‘s premiere. Meanwhile, CW’s comedic lineup only did 1/2 as well as the network’s old wrestling staple.
8pm
- Ghost Whisperer (9.3 million. 2.4/6 in 18-49) rounded up 7% more than last year.
- Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (5.8 million, 1.3/5) added on 700,000.
- Wife Swap’s new time slot only drew in 3.8 million (1.3/5).
- America’s Toughest Jobs (3.4 million, 1.0/3) lost 1.2 million.
- Everybody Hates Chris (2.1 million, 0.8/3) and The Game (1.9 million, 0.8/3) were down over 2 million from last week’s Smackdown.

- High School Musical: Get in the Picture (ABC, 8pm): “The six finalists attempt to learn TV theme songs from the 1970s and ‘80s.” Should we really allow these teens to butcher classic songs from before they were born?
- Deal or No Deal (NBC, 8pm): Season 4 premiere. Could this be the day that someone wins the million? Pleez. Do you think they’d give it up that quickly?
- America’s Toughest Jobs (NBC, 9pm): Series premiere. “Average Joes perform dangerous and physically demanding jobs in this competition series. The winner is awarded the annual salary of each job completed.” Aren’t Average Joes the ones already performing these jobs?

After nearly three years, the wait is almost over. According to Howie Mandel, Deal or No Deal will have its first millionaire very soon.
The surprise announcement was made during Thursday night’s finale of Last Comic Standing. (You can see that clip after the jump.) Since the date of the milestone wasn’t revealed, it’s not known how many suitcases aided the winner in their mission. In the program’s ‘Million Dollar Mission’ - which will be implemented again next season - an additional case worth $1 million will be added to the mix after each failed attempt.
Find out which overly-excited contestant finally wins when Deal or No Deal returns on Monday, August 25.

News
If you hated 2007’s Emmy Awards coverage, I have some good news and some bad news. The good news? The theater-in-the-round crap will be gone. (At least, I hope.) The bad news? Ryan Seacrest will once again be hosting. Though, in this case, he’ll be getting a little bit of help.
Instead of burdening one person with the ringleader task, the ceremony’s producers will be doling out the responsibility to five this time around. After all - who better to host a broadcast than the nominees for Outstanding Reality Host?
For the 60th Annual Primetime Emmys, those up for this year’s new category - Tom Bergeron (Dancing with the Stars), Heidi Klum (Project Runway), Howie Mandel (Deal or No Deal), Jeff Probst (Survivor) and Ryan Seacrest (American Idol) - will coincidentally be representing five different networks. Could this mean a much wider audience for ABC? They better hope so. Otherwise, one of them could be eliminated…
This fall’s telecast will be broadcast from Los Angeles on September 21.
