Damages Moves to DirecTV

Don’t already have DirecTV? You may want to get it now.
After three years on FX, Damages found itself heading toward the chopping block. Fortunately, the critically-acclaimed drama has just been given new life…on a new home.
The satellite service that helped save Friday Night Lights, has just placed a two-season order for the series. But unlike the NBC sports drama, Damages won’t get a second run on a different network. It will air only on DirecTV.
“It’s a win for our customers because only they will be able to see these new episodes and another great step forward for DirecTV as we continue to build our growing portfolio of exclusive, award winning programming,” Patty Ishimoto, vice president of entertainment for DirecTV said.
Glenn Close and Rose Byrne are both expected to return with the series in 2011.

TV Talk: No Sex for Neal McDonough, Jimmy Kimmel’s Post-Lost Special
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Late Night, Prime Time, Sci-Fi/Horror, Talk Shows, ABC, Cable, FX, HBO, Lost, Cable/Satellite, News,
--Did Neal McDonough’s religious beliefs cost him a gig? According to a report, the married Catholic was replaced on ABC’s Scoundrels because he didn’t want to do love scenes with Virginia Madsen. It’s a principle the Desperate Housewives star has stuck by during his career.
-True Blood, which was already based on Charlaine Harris’ novels, will now be adapted into a comic book series. Although the main characters will be included, the stories will be different from the ones seen on HBO.
-Damages could soon be pulling double-duty. If the critically-acclaimed drama is going to stay afloat, future seasons may air first on DirecTV before it airs on FX. That’s similar to the arrangement NBC had for Friday Night Lights.
-Jimmy Kimmel’s love of Lost has earned him a prime position. The late night comedian will now host a post-finale special after the show ends its run on Sunday, May 23.
VIDEO: More Dead People Appear in DirecTV Ads

After hiring Chris Farley after death, the people over at Landline TV (more internet video funny guys—as if we didn’t have enough) predicted who DirecTV may hire for their next commercials:
“After testing the boundaries with their Chris Farley spot, DirecTV wrangles more famous people from beyond the grave to be in commercials. “
In the video, the level of offensiveness heightens with each ad, as Heath Ledger, President John F. Kennedy, and Jesus are all mouthpieces for the satellite TV company.

Chris Farley Commercial: Tacky or Funny?
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Commercials, Editorial, Gossip, Video,
Is starring in a commercial with your dead best friend ever funny?
Upon seeing this new DirecTV ad for the first time, many of you out there apparently felt the same way me and my husband did: icky. Resurrecting Tommy Boy‘s Chris Farley for a commercial? Is there any scene that company won’t manipulate?
Now what if I told you that the spot was approved by both David Spade and Farley’s family? Would that change your opinion?

DirecTV Out of Line With Newest Ad?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Commercials, Gossip, Video,
We giggled when Christopher Lloyd talked about the future of DirecTV for a commercial spot. We laughed when Kathy Bates and William Shatner joined the fray. We ogled Baywatch-era Pam Anderson tout the service for her spot. We fell over in hysterics when we saw the Scooby Doo advertisement. But now, DirecTV may have twisted the funny bone of some viewers a little too hard. Their latest ad, just another in a long string of past pop culture references, has inspired some pretty heated controversy.
The ads were drawing attention even before the campaign hit the fan. Using the same actors and scenes but different lines, the service has promoted itself as an alternative to cable by putting us once again back in our favorite movie moments - as if to prove that the second time around really can be better than the first with DirecTV. They’re funny, they’re clever and they’re working. Er…they were.
