Is the Miss Universe Pageant Rigged?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Specials, Gossip, Rumors, Video
Choreographer Michael Schwandt, who’s worked on the last four Miss Universe pageants, recently spilled a few behind-the-scenes secrets in an interview. Schwandt says that pageant owner Donald Trump - and not the panel of judges - decides which contestants will make it to the final round.
“He pops in the day before the telecast, and we line up all the girls in alphabetical order,” he explained. “He [Trump] basically walks by and has an assistant that takes notes. And it’s just kind of common knowledge that he picks six of the top fifteen single-handedly.”
Of course, the procedure described by Schwandt is not outlined in the official Miss Universe pageant rules.

Jimmy Fallon’s First Guests Unveiled
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Late Night, Talk Shows, NBC
Yesterday’s Conan O’Brien finale (the New York version) officially kicked off the countdown for his successor’s premiere.
Beginning next month, a host of A-list celebrities will help launch Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Tina Fey (NBC star), Donald Trump (NBC star), Drew Barrymore (his Fever Pitch costar) and Cameron Diaz (why??) are among the names slated for Week 1.
Unfortunately, the SNL vet has elected to get the ball rolling with one of the most difficult interviewees out there: Robert De Niro. (I strongly suggest Fallon dissect Brian Williams’ awkward attempt first.)
Late Night debuts @ 12:30 A.M. on March 2nd.

Will Celebrities Shine in Trump’s World?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Prime Time, Reality, NBC, Apprentice, The - Donald, Gossip, Renewals

Poker players. TV personalities. Recording artists. Athletes. What do they all have in common? They all want to learn from Donald Trump. Or, they at least want to give that appearance while they collect a paycheck from NBC.
Reality TV has now become much more a medium for quasi- and has-been celebs, rather than an unscripted jaunt where ordinary folks get their chance to shine. But what the hell? Donald Trump is always fun, so why not another season of The Celebrity Apprentice? At this point, NBC’s willing to try anything.
So who makes up the star-studded cast? Mother-daughter team Joan and Melissa Rivers will join Tionne Watkins (T-Boz of TLC), Brande Roderick (Baywatch), reality TV vet Khloe Kardashian, Annie Duke (reigning poker queen), Natalie Gulbis (pro golfer) and Claudia Jordan (Deal or No Deal winner) to make up the female team.

Project Runway Spinoff Coming to Lifetime Too
Posted by Jacci Lewis Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Bravo, Cable, Cable/Satellite, Editorial, News
Ever wish you could know more about the designer’s models on Project Runway? Lifetime thinks you do. USA Today reports that Lifetime is planning to pair its newly acquired Project Runway with a half-hour spin-off called Models of the Runway which will focus on them as people, not just living clothes hangers. (The model paired up with the winning designer on Project Runway also wins a modeling contract and a spread in Elle magazine.)
Project Runway is expected to move over to the top-rated women’s cable network, Lifetime, in November. Bravo will air its fifth and probably final Project Runway season in July, though the move is being contested in court by Bravo parent company NBC. Project Runway has been Bravo’s top hit.

If you take away an episode of Survivor and add a repeat of Lost, what do you get? A win for Celebrity Apprentice. Fans left without much to watch last night helped give NBC a rare ratings win.

- The NCAA tournament (9.7 million, 3.8/10) rebounded by 1.3 million from last week.

Thursday Ratings: No Love for Eli Stone
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Award Shows, Drama, Games, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, Specials, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Apprentice, The - Donald, Lost, Survivor, Ratings
While romantic date nights could explain declining performances for Lost and Eli Stone, the same reason doesn’t apply to Celebrity Apprentice’s improvement. By night’s end, CBS was again a winner with the viewers while ABC had the edge in the demos.
8pm
- Survivor: Micronesia (13.1 million, 4.5/13 in 18-49) lost 800,000 deserters.
- Deal or No Deal (11 million, 3.4/10) saw a 1.7 million improvement.
- Lost* (6.2 million, 2.0/6) slid by 300,000.
- Coverage of the NAACP Image Awards (1.4/4) drew 3.9 million.
- Smallville (3.7 million, 1.5/4) was off by about 300,000.

‘Celebrity Apprentice’: Lennox Lewis is Full of Gas
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, NBC, Apprentice, The - Donald, Video
Heavyweight boxing champion Lennox Lewis - while intimidating in the ring - can easily be humbled in a reality forum.
Listen for the moment on last night’s Celebrity Apprentice when he let his guard down:
Reality News: ‘Moment of Truth’, ‘Apprentice’, ‘Bachelorette’, ‘Supernanny’
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Games, Kids, Prime Time, Reality, ABC, FOX, NBC, Apprentice, The - Donald, The Bachelor, Renewals
Now that The Moment of Truth has successfully breezed through its two-week trial run, the show is being rewarded with a nice bonus. FOX - apparently believing the reality show’s gimmick won’t tire quickly - has added on another 13 episodes to its initial 12-pack order. (I’m guessing it was the program’s stellar debut that instilled the network with such confidence.)
Although a list of potential seatwarmers dwindled after the show’s first two airings (seems the attention seekers weren’t too thrilled about what they had seen), other ballsy contestants will be stepping up. Production on the additional segments will begin on Feb. 11th.
Just when you think the Trumpster is down and out, he just keeps coming back for more.
Even though his ‘recruitment’ show once faced cancellation, it’s had a reversal of fortune and now been granted an extension. Impressive numbers for Celebrity Apprentice has made NBC think twice about letting Donald Trump and the reality staple go too soon. (No rush decisions should ever be made during a writers’ strike.) Come this time next year, we will be seeing a second round of stars vie for credibility and airtime.
Seriously, a boardroom full of D-listers is really the only thing that keeps viewers attracted to the show these days. It’s not like anyone really believes The Apprentice winners do anything for Trump’s organization anymore.

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Games, Kids, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Apprentice, The - Donald, Grey's Anatomy, Ratings
Two new episodes of Chuck couldn’t help NBC in the ratings race. When the smoke cleared, CBS was left standing with the viewers while FOX was holding tight to the demos.
8pm

- Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (3.2/9 in 18-49) averaged 10.3 million over its two hours.
- The last new episode of Ugly Betty (2.9/8) closed up shop with 8.9 million viewers.
- CSI: NY* (8.6 million, 1.8/5) was down 500,000 from last week’s Trace.
- The first hour of Chuck (2.7/7) debuted with 6.9 million.
- Smallville* (2.1 million, 0.8/2) lost 600,000 from one week ago.
