90210 Finale Offers Fireworks

Ethan admitted his feelings for Silver, Naomi got into a screaming match with Annie, hottie Liam got dragged off to Godonlyknowswhere…and the main character might’ve killed someone at the end of the episode. All in all, it was a pretty good first season finale for 90210.
To backtrack, the episode followed up on the Sophomore Prom (an event which does not exist at any high school I’ve ever known…but then who knows what the kids are doing these days). Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord) decided to host the after party at her house, a decision which led to the culmination of several different story lines.

Silver Breaks Down on 90210
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Prime Time, The CW, Gossip
Tuesday’s episode of 90210 attacked some very serious subject matter: mental illness. In a series of intense scenes, Erin Silver (played by Jessica Stroup) struggled to find her very confused way through the emotional upheaval of lost love.
Attack is just the right way to describe how the topic was handled. I was immediately impressed with the dizzying direction used for Silver’s first train station scene, with the camera whirring around her as she spit out her words without taking a breath (viewable in the clip above). The episode, “Off the Rails,” was directed by Jason Priestley (who has made many behind-the-camera contributions to the show through the season).

90210: Silver Loses Control
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Prime Time, The CW, Gossip, Spoilers
After multiple weeks on hiatus, 90210 returned to TV last night with an all new episode that started bringing several stories to a head. Annie and Ethan broke up; Naomi and Liam started something new. And Silver…well, she’s gone completely insane.
Yeah, the show is getting pretty good.
Erin Silver, played wonderfully by Jessica Stroup, is actually one of the original Beverly Hills, 90210 characters. She was born during the third season of the series, daughter of Kelly Taylor’s mother and David Silver’s father (they were married for a spell). She’s also been part of the main 90210 cast since the pilot episode of the series. Silver began to feature more prominently in the series when she started having a relationship with Dixon. But now, the character seems to be heading toward a whole new story arc.

90210: How Thin is Too Thin?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Prime Time, The CW, Gossip

For some reason, everyone is talking about the same thing today: the 90210 girls and how skinny they are. I admit, the first time I saw Shenae Grimes (she’s Annie), I felt sorry for the teens out there. When I was a very little girl watching Beverly Hills, 90210, it was hard enough looking at Kelly Taylor’s perfect smile and Donna Martin’s lovely figure and wondering how I could ever compete - but they, at least, looked as though they actually did eat the food at the Peach Pit, from time to time. The new crop of West Beverly High Schoolers look more like refugees in designer labels who just came from the salon, where some kind person gave them makeovers…but sadly, no snacks.

90210 Premiere: A Second Opinion

Okay - it’s been 12+ hours now since 90210, and I think I’ve had a proper amount of time to digest that premiere. And while my impressions of the show haven’t changed since last night night, it’s taken me a while to quickly summarize why I was left disappointed:
90210 wants to be what Gossip Girl already is.
After reading a list of reviews today - including the one written by my TV Envy colleague - I felt there was still room to offer an opposing opinion.
In general, most of the critics agreed that the show was much better than feared. I mean - should we have expected more from a show that didn’t offer any previews? No. But should we have expected more from a network that already offers quality catty fare? Yes.

90210 review: Old Zip, New Drama

That’s right, the wait is finally over. After keeping their new spin-off tightly under wraps, the CW premiered 90210 last night for two solid hours. The network refused to send out media copies, sparking rumors that the show is so terrible it was necessary to keep everything a secret.
Or was it just so fabulous that the CW wanted to surprise us all? Slick, polished production, beautiful sets and great costumes immediately impressed, but I was careful to hold my opinion until I learned a little something about the script.
Oh, who am I kidding? I was hooked right away, the very first second, and frothing at the mouth to see Shannen Doherty’s entrance. I waited for that little moment, like everyone else, for exactly one hour and twenty-right minutes.
