Celebrities are lining up to appear on the PBS children’s series Sesame Street. Though the viewers probably aren’t in the target audience for many of these A-list stars, Sesame Street holds a special place in many of our hearts. The series is celebrating its 40th season on TV, and it’s going to get a year to remember.
So far, the guest list for the season includes huge names like Jake Gyllenhaal, Adam Sandler, Cameron Diaz, Eva Longoria-Parker, Ricky Gervais, Christina Applegate, Paul Rudd, Hugh Jackman, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Matthew Fox. First Lady Michelle Obama will also be putting in an appearance.

2009 Golden Globe Awards
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Award Shows, Prime Time, Cable, HBO, NBC, News

One year after a strike-induced absence, the drinking resumed. Although the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards drew its usual set of followers tonight, this year’s program carried even more significance than usual. The reason? Heath Ledger.
With or without the Dark Knight nomination, the ceremony would have been interesting. Was this going to be the year a film about an Indian game show (Slumdog Millionaire) won top prize? Would either Meryl Streep (Mamma Mia, Doubt) or Kate Winslet (Revolutionary Road, The Reader) walk away with two awards? Could Mickey Rourke‘s comeback performance in The Wrestler earn him a surprise win over Sean Penn (Milk)?
To find out the answer to these questions (and many more), you can read our detailed coverage after the jump!

Even if Katherine Heigl was hoping to leave, it doesn’t sound like the network will be letting her go anytime soon.
Although the rising movie star irked many with her Emmy comments last month, ABC’s entertainment president Stephen McPherson says Heigl is “absolutely staying with the show.” This news comes days after rumors of a possible Izzie death started floating around. Word had it creator Shonda Rhimes was so irritated with the actress, she was considering all her options.

This weekend’s ABC premieres made it clear audiences prefer their dramas soapy on Sunday nights.

- Although Desperate Housewives (19.3 million viewers, 7.4/17 share in 18-49 demo) and Brothers & Sisters (13.3 million, 5.1/13) were both down from last year’s premieres (23% and 15% respectively), both shows earned their best numbers since Nov. 26th.
- Cold Case (13.5 million, 3.4/8) and Shark (11.4 million, 2.7/7) did improve upon last week’s premieres, though Shark’s numbers were lower compared to last year’s time slot holder (Without a Trace).
- The Simpsons (8.4 million, 4.2/11), King of the Hill (7.2 million, 3.5/9) and Family Guy (7.9 million, 4.2/10) all underperformed their numbers from last Sunday.

Desperate Housewives Gets Extended Stay at Wisteria Lane

Extra, Extra! Read all about it! Marc Cherry, creator of Desperate Housewives, just signed on for four more years of the series. The eight-figure deal puts Desperate Housewives on the tube through May 2011. For those of you keeping track, that’s seven seasons total. Oy. I don’t know if I can carry on that long. I mean, DH and I have had our ups and downs (down being the total of the second season), but I have hung in there through thick and thin. Hanging on through 2011 though? I don’t know if I have it in me, unless there are promises of exceptional storylines for years to come. At least the series has locked in Marc Cherry as the creative dude to carry out the next four years. The key cast members have also negotiated deals to stay on through 2011 too, although the details of that is a bit more hush-hush it seems. “The studio and the network and I all feel it’s best for me to stay glued to the set,” Cherry told Variety. “I’ve got my ship, and I’m gonna run it.” If you’re like me, fearing the continuation of the show beyond Cherry’s agreement, he has no plans to pass the torch, saying, “I think that, at the end of my deal, and after seven seasons, it will be a good time to call it quits. I don’t want anyone else to run the show, and I don’t want us to fade away.”

Introducing Desperate Housewives Dolls
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Desperate Housewives, Internet, Ratings
What could have prompted doll maker Madame Alexander to create a line of Desperate Housewives dolls? The leading ladies—Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, and Nicollette Sheridan—will each have a likeness of themselves in 16-inch plastic. I ask you, who will these dolls be marketed to? Are they simply a novelty item, or does the doll maker actually expect these things to fly off of the shelves? We shall find out soon enough, as the line will be featured in the spring 2007 issue of Fashion Doll Quarterly. As action figures and dolls go, these hardly look like their real-life counterparts, except possibly for Bree Van de Kamp, whose red hair makes her the most recognizable. Even die-hard fans fail to see the marketing opportunity with the dolls. One posting on desperateblog.com said, “I can see crazy fans like myself getting them as keepsakes but I just don’t think the dolls will be all that popular.” You never know though, with 21.3 million viewers each week in their third season, maybe someone will be interested in playing with the ladies of Wisteria Lane. Er, um, playing with the dolls, that is.
