UPDATE: The victim has since been identified as Paula Goodspeed, a 30-year-old who once auditioned for Season 5. It appears she may have died from a drug overdose.
“I am deeply shocked and saddened by what transpired yesterday,” Paula Abdul made the statement to E! News in response to the headlines of the day. “My heart and prayers go out to her family.”
“Her” is an Abdul fan who tragically killed herself outside the American Idol star’s California home. The body was discovered by police around six in the evening yesterday, on swanky Beverly Ridge Drive. According to authorities, she is the victim of an apparent suicide.
The thirty-something woman’s identity has not yet been revealed, though Captain Ross Bonfiglio of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department stated, “She has a history of mental illness.” She’d been reported missing approximately three hours prior to her discovery.

For fans of the original series - some of us still finding it hard to accept that there will never be a third season - the announcement that an American remake of Spaced was on the way probably didn’t raise cheers of joy.
In fact, it’s always been assumed that Granada (as it will be called) would be Americanized and Hollywoodized beyond recognition from the original genius upon which it’s based, which makes this latest piece of news all the more infuriating.

A foolish gesture considering Pegg and Wright’s phenomenal American success with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, and morally just all sorts of wrong.

A young Miley Cyrus fan won the contest of a lifetime when she submitted her essay about her father’s tour of duty in Iraq, which culminated in his demise. The six-year-old won four highly coveted tickets to a Miley concert and even got a makeover as part of the package. There’s just one problem: the essay wasn’t true. Okay, so maybe the child’s mother thought is was a creative writing contest. That’s easily confused…right?
When asked by contest officials if the essay was true, the child’s mother admitted outright that it was not. Because of this admission, the six-year-old will no longer attend the concert. Her award has been withdrawn and will be offered to another contestant.
