Is Unhitched Worth Watching?

They say you really shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover. But you know, in some cases, that time-saving strategy can really tell you a lot.
Case in point: FOX’s new comedy Unhitched. The show (debuting this weekend) almost lured me in with names like Rashida Jones, Craig Bierko and the Farrelly brothers. But then I saw some teasers. And now I’m convinced a few seconds has revealed quite enough. (You can view those clips, after the jump.)
I knew a show that had Bobby and Peter Farrelly (There’s Something About Mary) on board as executive producers could possibly be over the top, but I thought at the very minimum the ‘comedy’ would be funny. It isn’t. Both the writing and production feel cheap and Bierko - who I’ve loved in other projects - sticks out like an overacting sore thumb. Thankfully, Rashida Jones (The Office) comes off well in the straight girl role.
Those who do find the following snippets amusing can watch their first full episode this Sunday @ 9:30 on FOX.

MONDAY (2/25)
- A Raisin in the Sun (ABC, 8pm): Diddy and the rest of his Broadway cast bring the play to the small screen. I’m sorry - I believe his theater name is Sean Combs.
- The Moment of Truth (FOX, 8pm): Special night. Apparently this episode is so controversial, the producers debated airing it. Then they realized what network they were on and just went with it.
- Welcome to the Captain (CBS, 8:30): “Hope makes some new friends so she won’t be alone on Friday nights.” Their names? Jack and Daniels.
- Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious (CW, 9pm): “The women receive a surprise visit from JC Chasez.” They, too, are wondering why he doesn’t have anything better to do.

Farrelly Brothers Pilot Coming to NBC
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, BBC, NBC
The Farrelly brothers (Peter and Bobby) are perhaps best known for their films There’s Something About Mary, Kingpin, Stuck on You, and Shallow Hal. Now they’re bringing their brand of humor to the small screen, joining forces with Ben Silverman, producer of The Office and Wil Calhoun, a writer for Friends. The pilot, called I’m With Stupid, is an adaptation of a British show that pairs a homeless man with a disabled man in a wheelchair. The man comes to live at the home for the disabled where the wheelchair-bound man lives. So where is the Farrelly brothers’ signature gross-out humor? Well, it’s sure to have some people prickly over the nature of the show and possibly the title (who is the “stupid” one in this friendship?). The brothers will direct and serve as executive producers. The British version has received high marks for its potrayal of disabled people. We’ll see if the Farrelly’s can bring any sensitivity to the subject. The Farrelly’s are currently working on a Three Stooges project.
