Aside from FOX’s early celebration of Halloween (and a shift in CBS’ schedule), yesterday’s schedule was pretty uneventful. By night’s end, the Eye network was tops with the viewers while the Peacock network was first in the demos.
8pm

- Approximately 14.7 million watched the Atlanta Falcons beat the Chicago Bears on Sunday Night Football (6.1/15).
- Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (3.0/8) had 10.4 million feeling emotional.
- The Simpsons’ Treehouse of Horror XX (4.1/11) entertained 8.6 million; The Cleveland Show (3.8/9) pulled in 7.7 million.

Sunday Ratings: Cleveland Makes a Show for FOX
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Animation, Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, Sports, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, Amazing Race, The, Desperate Housewives, Family Guy, Ratings
There may have been a wedding on Wisteria Lane, but all the attention was on Cleveland last night. Although they pulled in numbers similar to their May finales, Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters both had their lowest-rated premieres to date. Meanwhile, the debut of The Cleveland Show had the best 18-49 start for any FOX comedy since March 2003.
8pm
- NBC averaged 14.1 million, (5.4/14 in 18-49) for its Sunday Night Football coverage.
- Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (10.5 million, 3.1/8) was down 1.4 million from last fall.
- Approximately 10.2 million (3.4/8) watched the 15th start of The Amazing Race.
- The Simpsons (8.2 million, 4.2/12) was off 1.1 million; The Cleveland Show opened (4.9/12) to 9.4 million.

Sunday Ratings: Emmys Improve, Football Scores
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Award Shows, Prime Time, Sports, CBS, NBC, Ratings

The winners might not have changed, but the numbers did. One year after seeing its lowest scores on record, the Emmys actually showed (some) improvement.
CBS’ airing Primetime Emmy Awards averaged 13.3 million (4.2/11 in 18-49) over the three-hour telecast. That’s an increase of 8% in the viewers and 11% in the key demos. While it’s hard to pinpoint a reason for the uptick, many have attributed the rising numbers to host Neil Patrick Harris.
Meanwhile, an entirely different competition was taking place over at NBC. The close battle between the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys sacked approximately 22.4 million viewers (16.5/27). That now stands as NBC’s best overnight score ever from the Sunday Night Football series.

Sunday Ratings: Steelers Win 2nd Biggest Super Bowl Ever
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, Specials, Sports, NBC, The Office, Ratings

One of the greatest matches in Super Bowl history attracted one of the largest audiences ever:
- Yesterday’s tight battle between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals nabbed 95.4 million viewers. Only last year’s contest between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants scored more. (That game rallied 97.5 million.)
- Super Bowl XLIII proved the nation still loves its football. For four years now, viewership has surpassed 90 million.
- Unfortunately, a special episode of The Office didn’t do as well as the game. Despite earning 22 million sets of eyes, the program roped in the smallest post-game audience since 2005.

(You can view TV Envy’s Midseason Programming Schedule here.)
MONDAY 1/26)
- Jon & Kate Plus 8 (TLC, 9pm): “Jon and Kate take the kids to see their new home.” The new place comes with extra bathrooms…and a new set of parents.
- The Closer (TNT, 9pm): Series return. “The fate of Detective Sanchez, who was shot three times and airlifted to a hospital, is revealed.” I don’t know how Sanchez is doing, but the suspense has been killing me!
- Bromance (MTV, 9pm): “Brody tricks the final four into attending a fake launch party for his line of designer jeans, where he asks them to walk the red carpet in pants that are entirely too tight.” Huh. I have no idea why people think this is really a dating show.
- Trust Me (TNT, 10pm): Series premiere. “Eric McCormack and Tom Cavanagh star as two best friends working as creative partners at a top-ranked Chicago ad agency.” Kinda like Mad Men, but without the booze and cigarettes. At least not in the office.
