Now that we have come to the end of the , it’s time to once again update our television programming schedules.

Mid-season replacements have had seen their debuts shuffled (e.g. New Amsterdam), some programs are coming back with new episodes (e.g. Scrubs, 30 Rock) while other shows aren’t slated to return until next year (Pushing Daisies).

Here you can find a compilation of the 2008 post-strike schedules for the five major networks.  I would highly recommend printing this out since there are major changes across the board.

Two notes:

  1. This is the updated schedule as of May 6.  Be prepared to see more changes and settling in the weeks to come.
  2. The list consists of premieres and dates for new episodes.
  3. If a particular time slot/network is not mentioned, either nothing has changed or no specific announcement has been made yet.

WWE Smackdown Spoilers (12/7)

WWE Smackdown! spoilers We saw a lot of really bizarre things on last few episodes of WWE Friday Night Smackdown. First we saw a disgusting make-out session between “The Rated-R Superstar” Edge and Vickie Guerrero, and then we saw the return of Teddy Long, which would ultimately lead to the making of a huge triple threat match between The Undertaker, Edge and Batista at Armageddon, with the World Heavyweight Championship on the line. Oh yeah, and this whole ECW/Smackdown talent exchange thing continues, so we can expect to see the boys of ECW as well.

Which superstar got speared so hard that he was out cold for five minutes? Find out in this week’s spoilers after the jump.

MONDAY (12/3)

  • (TNT, 8pm):  The special two-hour holiday episode brings Brenda’s parents into the investigative fold.  Nothing says Christmas like talking blood with your blood.
  • (NBC, 9pm):  (NOTE:  This is the last new episode left.)  ‘Peter squares off against former friends thanks to Adam’s confusing story about the Shanti virus.’  He shouldn’t fault Adam; the confusing storyline is to blame.
  • (FOX, 9pm):  ‘Boulet and Cobb investigate an insurance adjuster’s murder.’  As if there weren’t enough people in New Orleans with a motive.
  • (NBC, 10pm): (First half of the two-parter; 2nd half airs Wednesday).  ‘Evidence points to Reese’s father in the murders that sent Crews to prison.’  I’m guessing this won’t be resolved anytime soon…otherwise, we wouldn’t have a show.

MONDAY (11/12)

  • Prison Break (FOX, 8pm):  ‘Lechero reveals a secret buried beneath Sona.’  He’s been linked to the hatch this whole time. (NOTE:  This will be the last new Prison episode until Jan. 14th.)
  • Heroes (NBC, 9pm):  ‘The calendar turns back four months.’  Does this mean the writers still have a chance to redo this whole season?
  • (CBS, 9pm):  ‘Charlie finds success as a children’s singing star.’  He becomes The Wiggles’ new green-shirted guy.
  • (ABC, 10pm):  This is their opportunity to make up for any embarrassing moments they didn’t have a chance to create.

The Next Great American Band: The Great Show You’re Not Watching

The Next Great American BandDesperate to fill the musical void that occurs every May when American Idol goes off the air, FOX has tried nearly everything to make the formula work a second time. So You Think You Can Dance became a summer hit, prompting the network to try new mixes and methods to boost those all-important ratings. Even hard promotion didn’t save On The Lot, which was built around the same format as Idol. I actually thought the show – if not the host – was pretty good, but it’s doubtful On The Lot will appear on the FOX schedule again. The documentary-style Nashville was a quick musical casualty of the fall season, but FOX still held out high hopes for the much-touted, highly hyped reality series The Next Great American Band. Someone asked me, yesterday, if FOX execs think they can re-create American Idol. Yes, that is exactly what they think.

**NBC will devote this whole week to the environment and inject something ‘green’ into all their shows.  To enjoy it, we must turn on our TVs.**

MONDAY (11/5)
**Special times for the ABC lineup tonight; Dancing With The Stars runs until 9:45 (pushing everything else 15 minutes late).**

  • Prison Break (FOX, 8pm):  Two-hour episode.  Michael finally learns that Sara has been murdered tonight.  I’m curious to see how steely his eyes can get.
  • Everybody Hates Chris (CW, 8pm):  ‘When Chris joins the writing staff of the school newspaper, he makes up a story about a serial killer that causes a panic in the community.’  This is what people get when they don’t pay for a real newspaper.
  • How I Met Your Mother (CBS, 8pm):  ‘Marshall learns Lily’s dirty little financial secret when he and she decide to buy an apartment.’  As Suze Orman would say: “If he didn’t realize how many pairs of shoes she had, he’s equally to blame.”
  • The Big Bang Theory (CBS, 8:30pm):  ‘The guys ask Penny to join their ‘Halo’ team.’  The only time boys ask me to play Halo is when they need someone to kill.

  • Samantha Who? (ABC, 9:30):  “Sam assumes her role as a bridesmaid at a friend’s wedding, but upon arriving, she learns that the friend does not want her there.”  If only she knew that before she paid for the dress.
  • The Bachelor (ABC, 10pm):  “The final four contestants bring Brad home to meet their parents.”  The dads all envy his cool beard.
  • Californication (Showtime, 10:30pm):  Season finale.  Hopefully I’ll stop singing the Chili Peppers song now.

Is ‘The Next Great American Band’ A Reality Hit?

Next Great American BandReality TV has been good for the FOX network. The success of American Idol completely changed the once last-place channel. Now, FOX is determined to find repeat success with the one formula that works for them (besides cartoons). After the summer series On The Lot disappointed execs with low ratings, FOX blazed into the fall season with several new reality shows, two of them musically-themed. To balance out this act of bravery, FOX chose a known star to head the third reality show. Now, viewers can watch Gordon Ramsay in Kitchen Nightmares on Wednesdays, after catching a rare successful drama for FOX on Tuesdays (House). Thursdays are jam-packed with game shows…so, is anyone even sticking with FOX until Friday, the very end of the week?

The network had better hope so, as this is the time slot where the much-touted The Next Great American Band two-hour debut extravaganza was shoved at the end of a packed TV week. The ambitious docu-style reality drama Nashville is already kicked off the schedule, leaving FOX’s musical hopes riding solely on finding a great American band…or, at least, viewers.

  • Live With Regis and Kelly (ABC, syndicated):  will be pulling double-duty this week as he fills in for Regis Philbin in NY and tapes his show in LA.  (I’m guessing we’ll still be seeing him on as well.)  If we’re lucky, Guillermo will fill in for Gelman too.
  • Prison Break (FOX, 8pm):  The show returns tonight after being preempted by baseball last week.  What?  You don’t care either?
  • Heroes (NBC, 9pm):  Many fans have been waiting for Kristen Bell’s debut tonight.  Unfortunately, she’s one more new character I’ll have to ignore.
